Darkstalkers: Resurrection

To be honest, you're not missing too much. Nobody in the States really plays the game since anyone who cares about Darkstalkers is most likely on Savior, and nobody in Japan really plays it either since the version of Hunter that GGPO supports is the European version and not the Japanese version, which removed a number of bugs and glitches that the Japanese like. You'll find a couple of stragglers every now and then, but that's about it. I'd be down to play you, but I used my old roommate's PC since I have a Mac, so I no longer have access to GGPO since I no longer live with him.

Oh wow, that's quite a shame D: Almost makes me worried not many people will buy the re-release, especially considering Capcom's recent track record. How they handled the JJBA port for PSN/XBLA was timed poorly for release, overpriced, and ultimately heartbreaking due to the lack of Super Story mode. I'm a hardcore JJBA fanatic, so you never screw around with my JoJo <_<

But here's to hoping I'm proven wrong and the game becomes a success in the states. I will say, however, is that I'm never buying anything Capcom related so long as it's something having to do with Darkstalkers or Asura's Wrath. I'll pick the re-release up, then I'm all set for a while in the Capcom department.

I'm sure it'll be like the MvC or 3s re-release where people will buy it, but it won't really do anything for the scene in the long run. They'll pick it up due to nostalgia, but there probably won't be any change in the offline community. I've tried so many times to build an offline scene for Hunter, and I get the same response every time I bring my setup places.

"WHOAH! Is that Darkstalkers?"

"Yes it is!"

"Dude! I love that game!"

"Really? Do you wanna play? I can teach you any character on a basic level if you've got questions."

"Nah dude, I'm all set."

Maybe I'm a bit bitter, but my experience has been that people will claim to love the game, but very few of them have any interest in actually playing it. I'm really hoping things will turn around with this collection, but I doubt it. As for a new DS game, don't even get me started. I have no faith in the current Capcom.

That sounds like me trying to get people into DOA down here.

The key here is to actually tell Capcom what it is the community loves about competitive Darkstalkers. Look at it this way, MvC3 turned out the way it did because the most vocal folk during its development were vets like Fanatiq who kept pushing for a high stakes, broken, touch of death game. Fanatiq even wrote an article about how the most important thing about Marvel was the pressure players felt because of how one touch from any of the God tiers could kill off an entire team.

In any case, Neo_G Ishizawa (who designed VSav, 3S, MvC2 and U/MvC3's engines) is still working at Capcom.

I totally agree with this, but I've got a question for you. I know you're a big Savior guy. Would you honestly be happy if a new Darkstalkers game was more similar to Hunter than Savior? I'm a massive fan of DS as a whole, so I'll be supporting a new game no matter what, but I've seen so many Savior players complain that a new DS game would probably be too slow or not technical enough, and that they wouldn't be interested because of it. Conversely, the Hunter players I talk to don't want to see another super fast paced game like Savior and would like to see a return to the more traditional speed, with less of an emphasis on rushdown. It just kind of seems like no matter what Capcom tries to do with the game or who they listen to, some part of the community will be alienated and unhappy (welcome to the FGC I suppose).

Just to clarify, I don't hate Savior or anything. It's a fantastic game. It's just not my DS game of choice.

The consensus among most DS/Savior fans on SRK is that VSav is where the series really distinguishes itself from other 2D FGs. This is why we all insist that a new DS should retain the pace of VSav.

^Haven't been this giddy about a 2D fighter on XBL in quite some time.

You and I both, brother. Been wanting to snag that CraniumWenches, but I've been losing interest slowly after getting VF5FS. Until I get this and GGXXAC++R, HeadWhores will have to wait. Not sure what will become of it now that the original team who worked on it bit the dust D:

Interesting news just surfaced. Capcom's holding a character design contest dubbed "Darkstlakers Resurrection: Embrace the Dark". Says here that the grand prize is a copy of the Darkstalkers Tribute book, a statue of Lord Raptor, and finally your character drawn by Stanley "Artgerm" Lau himself!

http://www.capcom.com/dsetd/

Obviously I'm entering of course. Good luck to everyone else here who's interested : D

Only reason Japan is getting a disc release is because downloadable releases don't sell well in Japan, which is where Darkstalkers has always been more popular in.

I'd much rather have a disc release, but I guess I could settle for digital. Then again my HD space is looking a little iffy thanks to TTT2 for eating up nearly all the memory I had left <_<;
