DoA4 is p2p. As long as xbox live is active for the 360 DoA4 will be playable online. Now if anyone still plays it is another story.

Yes is still active, you can find from 2 to 4 lobbies to play almost in every moment of the day. I play often here because also if not good from a competitive point, Doa4 is always a great funny game IMO xD

Not necessarily.
DoAU service was shut down some months after the release of DoA4, for instance.

Despite the new features of DoA5 I still think the DoA4 online (and DoAU too!) was much smoother and better programmed. So Unique and so "doa". It's like it had its own standard.
DoA5 has been reprogrammed from zero and they used almost nothing of the past code, which is a shame sigh

I'm enjoying DoA5 a lot but I doubt it will last as long as DoA4 did.

DoAU shut down because they turned off xbox live service for the original xbox. If service to xbox live was still available for the original xbox then DoAU would still be playable online. And it wasn't months after DoA4 released. Xbox live remained active after the 360 launched for almost 5 years.

Yep, and don't you think that's eventually bound to happen with X360 too once the new console has been out for a while?
Oh and technically it was ~4 years if I'm not wrong (which is indeed "almost 5 years" if we want to stretch it)

The strange thing is that when they closed the servers, I mean, the weeks before, there were STILL people playing it, which is insane. Means there was a strong and loyal community behind it, it was the same (it is?) with DoA4.
That didn't happen with the majority of online fighting game I've experienced.
