What's the thought on even having a tier discussion right now, with the game being different on each console and the stagger escape glitch being in place?

People don't "like" it, that's how they see it. Though the only ninja that I ever noticed being above mid tier in the 1.02 tier lists was Ayane. However, now that all four ninja characters and all three VF characters received buffs in 1.03, they might move up to top/high now.

i didn't use like that man. I mean.. those characters are going to take over in 1.03. And people like AP and JDE said Kasumi was high in 1.02 as well.
It's very possible, but we'll have to wait and see.

I hope it doesn't turn out that way. I know it's a known fact I'm the number one ninja hater, which is a title I'll wear proudly. I'm thinking of getting a shirt made for it too. I'm not kidding. I hate them that much. But if it turns out to be like it will be DOA 4 all over again this time featuring Akira, Sarah, and Pai.

Judging from the buffs he got and meaningless nerfs (which probably won't effect his game as no one used those moves to begin with) I don't see Akira moving up much higher on the tier list. He was already good, they simply nerfed everyone's health and buffed his basic damage on pretty much everything useful that he has, turning him into a bulldozer.
I placed him at the bottom of high tier before. Now I might move him up a few spaces but with all the buffs the other characters have gotten, I can't see him moving much with so little being changed.
Hayate on the other hand probably jumped a tier or 3. I'm almost certain he's high tier now, a huge contrast to his low-bottom tier 1.02 counterpart.

Hayate was a Good Char before the Patch now he is a real beast!
Here's to hoping that this will kick off now that the patch is out, and we'll get some good assessment going.
This is one of the communities where we STILL don't have a definitive tier list going
That's because most communities play the game for a year until a 'definitive' tier list is going. Also, they don't typically have 4 patches in the first 5 months.
Lastly, because everyone seems to want to post their personal take on what character is better than the other characters with no data besides "I always beat <character>." or "I never play that character". Instead of focusing on each character's tools and comparing it to another character in a match up.
Oh, then there's the fact that both systems are running different data.

Going to assume you're talking about Akira as I'd be loopy to not realize how much better Hayate got.
On the subject, he's gotten a good bit better but not all that much. He was a good character, now he just does soviet damage. In hindsight you can just do everything you were already doing before and it'll work more now. In that regard, he, like I said, will likely move up a couple spots, but not much more than that.
On a sidenote: Wow people actually started picking up Akira? Hats off to them if they have the patience to stick with him.
