Does anyone else hate the way this game is played at "top levels"?

Top players, I'm assuming you'll have problems with this but that's just fine. Opinions and such. Anyway, does anyone else really hate how playing an S+ is the same thing every single time (might be a bit of generalization, but whatever)? Yeah they whoop your ass but you find yourself just kinda waiting for the match to end so you can play someone else? Maybe that's just my experience? Granted this is easier to avoid now since you can see grades and names beforehand but still, if you're an S trying to rank up it's kinda hard to do that without playing S+.

Anyway, just seeing if I'm alone in this or not.

Thanks! :)

Are you hating the way more experienced players are man handling you? I actually welcome the challenge because everything you thought you knew about your character gets thrown to the wind. Personally, I've gone up against some people that have dominated me because I got too comfortable on moves/combos that work on the less talented. I mean, I got destroyed. It has recently driven me to do an even deeper dive on my character. I need to identify better situational counters (not holds, counters), true guaranteed strings, etc. It's totally changing my play style and forcing me out of auto pilot.

Mmmm. I don't really think S+'s are the top players. Sure, there are S's that are experts, but there are really some not so good ones out there. The ranking system isn't really that good. I think I've seen better F players than S's. But that's just because those folks probably avoid ranked all together.

True. There are good players online, though some of them are F grade because they don't play ranked. What I meant though, is that the true "top level players" are the ones who go to offline tournaments.

Oke let's not start this debate again please a S+ could be a top player or could also be a noob or whatever since the ranking system in DOA5 is BS. I think what dramic is talking about is basically that when he fights players significantly better than him(top or not top) he doesn't like it since he always loses. I don't see what that has to do anything with how the game is played on top level tough. Anyhow i would say if you find your self getting bodied by other players you should try to think why that is, what is it that you doing wrong or better yet what do they do right. If you are not looking on getting any better in this game however just try to find people from the same skill level as you to play against. The rank of a player might not tell you much but one fight against a player does so use that to pick your opponents correctly and enjoy the game.

I get that feeling a lot, too. It's why I'm glad I have the comp next to me. I'll get bored mid match, I don't even have to be the one LOSING, either, but I'll just lose interest and turn to my computer while I wait for them to wrap up the match and i'll just watch youtube or something in the mean time.

The "matches" are just more of a routine after a while, with everyone trying to do the same exact "high level" patterns/combos. So I either get bored because I'm just stopping the same pattern over and over across 600 matches, or I'm bored because they got lucky and landed a hit so now i'm just waiting till its my turn to play again.

It also makes the game feel VERY slow-paced.

My grade has been just sitting at A+ for weeks now because I lose a lot of matches due to just...losing interest, but it says up enough because when i win, it gives a ton of points. But I kinda wish it would bring my rank back DOWN already.

It's better if you have friends to play with, you get more variety between matches that way, oddly enough, but sadly, none of my friends play fighters.

Yeah the whole idea of only gaining GP through ranked really messes things up. Of course if they did it DOA4 style though, where you rank up in everything, then you'd have people boosting. Still, it feels like the grade system would have been more accurate if it worked like in DOA4.

But on the other hand, when players are being way too aggressive, it puts people off of even trying.

I've had this happen when i'm new, and seen it happen with a LOT of other people. it generally goes something like this.

*is getting tossed around*

"Welp, I'm out."
"What? You're not even going to try?!"
"There's nothing TO try. I CAN'T MOVE."

*leaves to go play a game where you get to actually play, instead.*

There's a point where there's no incentive to even get better.

I read it's even worse in the patch? I read you lose a ton of points if you lose to a lower rank. Somewhere like 900GP? Do people think that's fair? Is it better?

It's probably better that way, since it seems to be impossible to have your grade go down in 1.02.

This is why whenever i fight a less skilled opponent i always give them the room to fight back i never just destroy someone(unless they are lagging very very very bad) this way they won't just drop the game and get frustrated rather they would want to get better to beat me next time.

Same. I can't stand when I don't get to play (as you may have noticed) so I refuse to do it to other people. I try to keep the playing field even.

Than what exactly is the point of fighting if you are not fighting to win?
Oh i'm fighting to win but giving someone a chance to fight back is more fun(for both players) than just destroying someone because they don't know how to respond especially when they are beginners.

Scrubs. Scrubs everywhere.

My god, you all make my brain hurt.

No, it isn't. It's disrespectful as hell. You, Silver, and basically anyone else who does this should be ashamed of yourselves. Your opponent will never grow from matches against you, you will not grow personally, and what you are doing is essentially an insult to his intelligence.

Desperation is what makes players improve themselves. You take away that desperation and you will forever be bottom of the play field.

My thoughts exactly. I know that it can be annoying if you can't do anything because your opponent's pressure is great, but is it really fun when your opponent is going easy on you? And when the tables are reversed is it really fun to gimp yourself and not play to your fullest?

If I'm in a lobby where I'm so much better than the other players that it's not even a challenge (which is pretty rare for me), I just leave and find a lobby closer to my skill range. It's not fun to just intentionally suck so that they feel like they have a chance. It shouldn't be fun for them either because they aren't getting a real fight.

1) To play the game. I gain nothing from winning, to me, it's just a loading screen until I get back to playing when another match starts. I like fighting because I enjoy the fighting itself. It's why I paid 60 bucks. It's fun.

2) No real choice on xbox who I play right now, as I mostly do ranked for the sake of getting into a match quicker and not having to wait 20 minutes to play again if I lose (lobbies).

Exactly. It's no fun when they can't fight back. Not interested in just dominating someone to the point where it can't even be called a "fight" anymore.

-This is not the case for everyone. I dont want the person to take it easy on me, I want the full on assault. Many players(including myself) learn by reading patterns, setups, situations than adapting to it. Begginers shouldnt be playing those who far out class them. They need to play those of similar skill sets so they can learn incriments.

-There is also nothing stopping new players to ask questions about certain tactics being used against them, and how they can over come. Not being proactive and getting upset you cant get in edge wise is counter-productive in the growth of becoming a better player.

-So why exactly are you playing a fighting game, when the goal is winning by out playing your opponent?
