What was different about DoAD and 4s stun systems?

DOAD's stun system was that if you were put into stun of Hi-Counter Blow then you were immediately at high threshold level even though the threshold damage wasn't maxed.

So in other words you could jab a throwing opponent then launch and would receive max launch height like DOA2/3, or you could continue the stun threshold like DOA2/3. If you counter-hit the opponent's attack with a jab instead then you would need to get one more hit to reach high threshold, and if it was normal hit then you would need to go through the full threshold like DOA4.

Ah, that's why it seemed so different than how people made it seem when I played dimensions. That sounds pretty nice, if dimensions didn't have a fucking 3 point hold system, unholdable stuns, wasn't in 3DS and falls didn't fucking take half life AND kill you it could have been amazing. (I enjoy the game but hate it with a deep passion at the same time)

The only things that I hated about DOAD were the 3-point holds and the projectile attacks. Projectiles don't work in DOA and 3-point holds don't work in modern DOA.

I'm sorry, but I don't see Tengu in that. Where the hell did that come from anyway?

I think the only difference is that in Dimensions, a stun caused by a HCH strike always gave max height to any launcher no matter which one was used and best of all, WITHOUT playing the stun game for 3-4 more hits. Still, Dimensions had a 3-point hold system and people could hold out of everything so it still sucked balls.

I still think reducing the threshold OR making the stun-causing strike to count in the numbers are the correct way to go. If they add more unholdables, safe moves, plus-on-guard moves and make the sidesteps work better we could be in for one of the best fighters out there.

This pisses me off because DOA has the tools to be an incredibly good game but a bunch of minor details end up ruining the thing when compared to Virtua.

EDIT: I can't make anything out of that pic... only Ayane's uglyness.

Saving the image and zooming out confirms that it's just Ayane in her C1. It's impossible to make out any of the character slots because they're too small. It does appear to have two random slots though.
