but the absolutely unplayable online mode/netcode killed this game for me and had to drop it. my main fighting game, tekken, had horrible netcode as well. then they did an amazing job with the netcode of TTT2 and because of that lots of really good tekken players started to play online and this leveled up my game significantly.

hopefully DOA5 ultimate will have a great netcode so that i can pick up this fun game again :)

TN did say on the DOA5U: Core Fighters website that improving online play was one of the reasons for DOA5 online not being compatible with DOA5U online, so I'm sure that the netcode will be updated in some way.

Ill get the full version or whatever is the name now for the retail xD hope they update the graphics for busa and ayane like they were in the the alpha version (looks like a yes according to the image I saw), new stages, characters and new moves thats good for me.this kind of updated game versions have been going on since the old street fighters in the 90 not sure why ppl are so mad about this...better this than to wait another 5 years for a new DoA right? =´P

Yes, I'll buy the retail version. I want everything available from the get-go so I can get straight into training and tearing the game apart.

They said all the characters are selectable as opponents in training mode. So unless they lock something out, you could technically do that with the free version by just using the record function.

Why would I get a downloadable free version of a game that doesn't have everything by default when I can use the retail version for what I already said and for casual gatherings? I don't play DOA online, so I have very little reason to just practice theory and other in-depth things with just one character. I want to break things down for multiple characters (like a competent player should) and have all of them available for local play.

I will be buying Doa5U. With the Ultimate moniker being attached, I am pretty sure there will be significant game play changes.

My opinion, those who are not buying are not true fans... (true fans are like this ) it's like you would still be with your boy friend or girl friend no matter what price you pay with them or what you go through with them, that's not too overbearing lol.

There is a difference between being a ''True fan'' vs being a Fanboy

A true fan can be objective in calling things as the facts present. A True fan can point of the good and the bad of a game or company

A fanboy disregards the facts due to the emotional attatchments

To say '' those who are not buying are not true fans'' = a fanboyish statement
because it is devoid of all objectivity

My reason for not buying this is the same reason i did not buy Street fighter AE , and Ultimate Marvel Vs capcom 3, Ninja gaiden razors edge ect ...i brought the original versions of all these games, and i dont support these business practices

Simply because this is a business tactic to milk the consumer of more money. The amount of money is irrelevant. Its called principle. My argument is from an objective consumers mindset. Doa5 ultimate is a capcom tactic game bottom line. Call it like it is. The game was announced only 7 months after the release of doa5 and will be 1 year when it releases.

To those who claim ''they have been doing this from the start'' well thats not true in the case of doa

Dead or alive 1 1998 Playstation 1 Saturn
Dead or alive 2 2000 Dreamcast
Dead or alive 3 2001 Xbox
Dead or alive U 2004 Xbox
Dead or alive 4 2005 Xbox 360
Dead or alive 5 2012 Xbox 360 PS3
Dead or alive 5U 2013 Xbox 360 PS3

The gap between Doa 2 and DoaU was 4 years with a console upgrade
The gap between Doa5 and Doa5U is less than one year
So this is hardly the same thing. Any updated versions of doa came with updated consoles as well
This is called milking
These practices are the reason why the gaming industry consoles in particular is becoming more ''corporate'' and business tactics heavy because the gamers allow these practices by voting with there wallets. Just look at whats happening with the xbox One ...blame microsoft all you want but at the end of the day you vote with your wallet ...Your purchase tells them these practices - Online passes pay to play online DRM ect are ok
Ninja gaiden 3 was a disgrace and they tried to damage control that failure with razors edge. Doa5 is a solid game but doa5U is just a cash in...It invalidates the purchase of the original
If i get doa5U it will be used just so Koei tecmo does not see a cent of my money for this business practice ....but oh thats right it will probably have an online pass ....another business tactic i don't agree with
This is not a debate
This is not an argument
I am simply stating a fact

Also there is 3 versions of DOA3

you missed the point very much

Im not referring to handheld, ports, updates,PC, because those are irrelevant to the console discussion of games in the mainline of the series

Also Im talking about original console release ; doa2 on the dreamcast to doa2 U on the xbox
4 year gap and a change of hardware

Doa5 to Doa5U announced less then 1 year will be 1 year upon release on the same console

doa2 hardcore on the ps2 was a updated port

Doa 5 to doa5 U is less then a year

how many of those doa 3 versions were full retail console releases on the xbox in 2001.... thats what i thought

you also did not reply to any of the other points but nice job compiling a list we already knew about LOL im not sure what you tried to accomplish with that list because the games on my list consisted of games in the mainline of the doa series minus hardcore due to it being a ps2 port...i forget in forums you need to be specific and spell everything out because it will be soon taken out of context

So If they released DOA5U on the WiiU and left the PS3 and Xbox 360 out. It would be okay?

It's okay to release an updated version of the game only if it's terrible. They can't take a decent game and make it better?

Also, what does me buying an updated version of a game have to do with Microsoft trying to control what I do with my games?

To address your points

-If they released doa5U on the wiiU and left the ps3 and 360 out that would be the same scenario which happened with Ninja gaiden 3
Ninja gaiden 3 was originally ps3 and 360 and then word came out the wii u would be getting an ''exclusive version'' called 'Razors edge''
We all know how that failure turned out

''It's okay to release an updated version of the game only if it's terrible. They can't take a decent game and make it better?''

-Your arguing from a business perspective rather then the perspective of the consumer/gamer. So its hard for me to comment on that. Yes they can make the game better through patches rather than a whole new game less then a year the original has been out. The point is that Doa5 U should have been the 1st game just like Ninja gaiden 3 razors edge should have been the 1st game just like UMVC3 should have been the 1st game ect ect.

''Also, what does me buying an updated version of a game have to do with Microsoft trying to control what I do with my games?''

That was a general comment about why gaming is going the way its going...because the gamers accept bad business practices like this rather then call it like it is.

Doa 5 had an online pass doa5U will most likely have it too

Online passes which was started by EA makes the publisher/developer gets some of the money lost to used games...everyone knows that... so lets say i buy doa5U used and i try to play it online ...i cant because i have to pay a fee to have access to the game online that i already brought..

Im a doa fan , however im also objective when it comes to bad business practices. This is not good for gaming as a whole. If devs and publishers got it right the 1st time which would help there sales numbers ; then this stuff would not happen

"If devs and publishers got it right the 1st time which would help there sales numbers ; then this stuff would not happen"

this isnt always possible however, the original Ninja Gaiden which is widely considered the best in the series was improved upon in Black.so even even if they do "get it right" they can always go further especially with the aid of fan feedback
