^ This is exactly why I hate online play, particularly for Tekken. Play these type of players offline and they'll get lit up after a match or 2. So much bullshit online even with T8's netcode.
KT could charge as much as they want for cosmetics to be fair as long as the content doesn't constitute "Pay 2 Win" in any way. Tekken 8 still charging $10.99 CAD for a new character and not letting non-buyers lab him in a $90 CAD game feels kinda iffy now in 2024. AL or OW2 would get crucified...
Upon reflection DOA5/DOA6 were perfectly fine to charge for cosmetic DLC. Any additional stages were free apart from the licensed Attack on Titan stage in DOA5LR. I hate to use Overwatch 2 as an example, but I personally think stages and characters should be free (or unlockable within the game...
This begs the question of what would be fair monetisation for DOA7? Harada defends T8's monetisation by mentioning that T8 cost 3 times as much to develop than T7 (though T7 doesn't exactly look like it had that high of budget and looks pretty ugly TBH).
DOA6 being announced right at the start of E3 2018 was a good move. Multiple days to describe the game to interviewers. KT just bungled the marketing hard. A DOA7 needs to nail the marketing.
As much as I'd love a new DOA game to get announced, it's not likely to happen. Tokyo Games Show or better yet in more of a dream world: a Microsoft Direct or Sony Direct would be a better place to announce a new DOA game. An FGC event would actually be unfavourable because the FGC, in all their...
Wanted Dead is actually fun as a silly 3rd person shooter/hack n' slash hybrid, but yeah it is pretty cool that a game like that is getting updates. Its budget shows in every aspect of the game haha. As much as I loved the OG NG/DOA team, I really don't think they transitioned within generation...
Tekken 8's BP is embarrassingly bad compared to Fortnite or Overwatch 2. Namco is just doing "me 2" with it. I'll definitely will still play T8 with my offline scene (or if anyone I know online would want to play), but I won't be buying any DLC for it and won't really actively support it that much.
If the price could get down to around $40-45-ish CAD (don't buy digital games full price) I would be willing to give Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising a shot since I heard that the game's battle pass is decent compared to SF6 or T8.
Tekken 8's Microtransactions: Season passes, Tekken Shop & Battle passes; set a dangerous precedent for fighting games going forward, especially AAA FG's. I shudder to think what Namco may do to whore out a potential SoulCalibur VII.
