@ChaolanLegacy DMC3-5 actually both have very distinct weakness based gameplay as well (elements, gun vs sword). DMC1 just didn't design the rewards and peak of style to the heights of 3-5, I don't think we can really cut down on mechanics though.
In brief, DBS Broly existing and apparently being a great movie took the edge off a lot of people. Before you just had to accept that Broly was not canon and that Kale had his gimmick and was using traced animations from his movies.
Perhaps, but IMO DMC2's design needs to be dropped. Flying and running quick doesn't need a menu. Amulets for Lucia can be switchable in real time. Dante's attitude (and coin flip) should be revised to be like any other game.
