If anything this situation shows us the REAL reason people play DOA XD if they're crying over censorship and boycotting DOA6 and all that, then chances are they're not serious about the game to begin with
Granted that a little fan service isn't that bad, but people ask for way too damn much for DOA & they do too much of it. I have swimsuits here & there but only a few that I like, but I hardly even play in them. I use their fighting gear. It's not why I play fighting games with girls.
I use female fighters mostly because they're usually mobile in some way even more than the males whether it be speed or forward/backdashing, & walkspeed. A fighter is a fighter. If they suit me better than a male, then they get the job for me. No discriminating here.
I'm kinda in between, I buy anything hot for the characters I use but I also play the game seriously as well, as long as you're not just in a darkly lit room jacking off to the characters and not bothering to seriously play the game, I see no harm in eye candy for the characters you put alot of work and devotion to
What people like that need to understand is that having revealing women on the screen like that in fighting games can serve as a huge distraction to people whenever they're playing. They them seem more objectified. Shit like this has always tarnished DOA's image. Can you imagine how people react to how characters like Chun-Li, Taki, Supergirl, & Zatanna were always fighting half-naked?
People would give them the same kind of criticism that this franchise has always been scrutinized for. I have Chun-Li's 2 swimsuits too. They're sexy as fuck, but again, I use her fighting costumes more because I respect her for the character archetype.
Yeah, some characters i just can't see wearing little to nothing. XD plus SF and Tekken can get away with that as well since fighting and gameplay has always been a main focus, while for DOA it was blemished when XBV came out, that was a major dark cloud >.>
Yeah, & whenever people try to bring up SFV's fanservice, Cammy's default, Ivy, Mai, etc, they seem to be nostalgia blind by the fact that Itagaki was the one who started the entire thing by attracting these kind of fans with the excessive stuff. So it makes their arguments weak. Namco & Capcom did not start this.
At first I thought @KasumiLover69 was having a conversation with himself, but yeah, good discussion so far guys. All the people panicking over DOA6's "toning down" of the "fan service" are either the morons crying about everyone succumbing to SJW's or the typical closest pervert fans that Itagaki attracted with the earlier DOA releases.
And yes, with regards to fanservice; SC, SF, Anime fighters, etc. get away with it because they are promoted as fighting games first, fanservice funsies second. DOA6 is trying to reverse their stigma and be seen as a "cool, serious" fighting game first, fanservice second. I applaud TN for their direction.
Most of the case of fighter identity is because of Itagaki with DOA. He was not big on fighting games. This was the guy who literally said "A wrestler should never beat a ninja". Itagaki could create the most violent of Ninja Gaiden and you'll still see comments like "Where's my boob physics what is this shit" so TN's game reputation is like stuck on glue with that.
It is unfortunate, maybe someday TN could have a second fighter that isn't in Itagaki's image. How long that will be? no one knows, but DOA is going pretty strong now without him and I say it was for the best that he left the series.
He was great with Ninja Gaiden to be honest, it's probably the only series I don't mind him going back to. Definitely not DOA though.
@Force_of_Nature we have similar avatars. I'm about to change it to something else. Yeah I came to 19 notifications, but I like that this is a good discussion. So I don't mind it. I do reiterate with people who disagree with me. I am not saying that fanservice is bad. Just do not prioritize it over the fighting game franchise & that's what DOA has done. All I'm saying.
