Yeah, I was aware that SFV created a rift within the community. A lot of people left or they just stuck with SFIV and the older games, which I'm also doing with Tekken.
If you still have a PS1 or PS2, you can still play 'em. Tekken 2 got re-released on the PS3 and Tekken Tag 1 got HD remastered on Tekken Hybrid which is a bundle of Tekken Tag 1 HD, the CG movie, and Tekken Tag 2 demo (Prologue).
Honestly, Tekken 3 was my first Tekken game and trying to play Tekken 1 felt boring AF because the game is slow and unresponsive LOL
@Force_of_Nature Thanks for the clarification, I notice in both instances there is a good window of time for an attack (if your opponent performs a tech roll or if you force them off the ground).
@Shirataki Tsume, For me it's just the feels. I love the Szechwan theme, and it was the first game I played on Playstation. The gameplay may not be the best, but I'll be damned if it wasn't fun.
Ah, I see. Because arcades are a good way to play older games and keep them alive. Arcades is where I started playing Tekken because I never truly owned a console until I got a Xbox 360 during 2010. I only got it just to play Tekken 6 at my home.
These days I live like a hermit and rarely go outside except for work, plus I prefer the comforts of home as well (can't play with a stick anyway). I remember T6 being smooth too.
Yeah, because Tekken 6 has that motion blur feature in it which blurs out the frame displays and makes the game look like the characters are actually moving. It's the first fighting game to have a motion blur, and Tekken is apparently the only 3D fighting game to have a motion blur. They took that out in Tekken 7 on arcades/consoles and they only have that feature on the PC version.
It's a cool effect. I like the lighting on the stages too. The gameplay itsself looks smooth too, I love Tekken's stripped down style compared to all the "bells and whistles" of DOA (even though it's a basic feature, I'm including holds when I say that). I'm not gonna complain too much about Rage Drive, though. xD Nice addition.
You can also try out BlazBlue. I never played it, but I heard it's a challenging game as well, but go for Central Fiction. Cross Tag Battle has been simplified as I've heard. The game has an amazing tutorial as well.
That sounds awesome. I remember seeing a BlazBlue video that somehow lead me to another franchise I'll check out: Skullgirls. Yeah, I said it. Don't care, love the art style.
I'm a huge DOA fan but anyone who says it's harder than Tekken is delusional or has never gone up against a player who has mastered the movement and neutral game properly. The skill gap is immense in Tekken and a lot of people never manage to cross it.
Yeah DOA is easier, you have holds to stop just about any situation, the command lists are easier and virtually universal in comparison to Tekken's more unique sets and the frames and stuff are visible in thr game too xD
Tekken is more bare bones and requires a more defensive type mind set and isn't as straighforward so most DOA players will be turned off by tekken if they play with a DOA mindset
Yeah Tekken is insanely technical once you actually start trying to dive in past casual basics XD I've delved a little bit but I just don't have the time to get good. You can spend days just trying to wrap your head around the frame data for just one character, and then you have to put the time in to apply it practically with your movement game (Which also needs to be on point).
