Consoles are still a cheaper option, and that makes a lot of difference in the market overall, also, competition is good, so having only one medium to have games would suck, no matter what medium.
I'm a diehard console gamer but all the bullshit i witnessed through the last generation is too much for me.Subscription, dlc, forced multiplayer, loot boxes, lack of retrocompatibility, shitty online, overpriced games no matter the format, shitty software and hardware, day one patch etc etc
The console generation already ended. What we have now are cheaper PC's, and mobile devices. It's just about branding the hardware at this point, and people will always want a cheaper alternative.
Yeah Thats one of the things that put me off from consoles... they're not as cinvenient as they used to be... if I wanted to deal with that drama then I can get it all from my computer...
The only reason why I still play on console is because I wanna play games that aren't on PC, specifically games that are released before 2014 when most of them are just for PS3/X360. 75% of the PS4/XB1 games I know are playable on PC.
Are consoles truly cheaper in long run though? You have to pay for subscription after all. You don't need to do that with pc right? Plus because of steam sales you get games so much cheaper.
You can get two games per month with your Subscription so that softens the blow...
If you happen to already have a modern home computer that you only use for like research or whatever then its actually cheaper to swap out two or three conponents to convert it into a gaming Rig...
Its putting together a Rig from scratch thats super expensive...
