A popular fan theory is that they are half sisters, sharing raidou as a father. This is due to honoka sharing many similarities with raidou (both being move stealers and they both have the mysterious red glow, and there's that honoka/raidou tag team victory screen) But nothing's been confirmed, hopefully doa6 will shed some light on this

furthermore ayane and honoka both have red eyes and share tag poses.. seems clear to me especially since they'll have cutscenes together in 6, an easy way to make honoka relevant to the plot
