And yes, a "spin-off game" defines DOA to the vast majority of the FGC, gaming public & general mainstream. That's a testament to how piss poor DOA's marketing has been, since, pretty much forever and puts into perspective how much work relatively the DOA community has to put in gain ground and positive recognition. Doesn't matter how you slice it, in the grand scheme of things, Team Ninja fucked up then.

@Force_of_Nature The problem is that this isn't a case by case basis though, it's sheer bias in most cases because even with the shoddy marketing, the fact people usually conflate a spinoff to the main series would never, ever fly in any other media period, marketing be damned. That's the point I'm trying to make here.

I'm ultimately pointing out that despite the shit marketing, there should be no possible way people would actually conflate a spinoff to BE the main series as many people's stories say, that's where I'm calling bullshit because there's no other way you can put that out past plain and simple bias. Again, I don't see Puzzle Fighter will ever be conflated with Street Fighter and that's the point.

Buddy, don't underestimate the influence of shit-tastic marketing and the general moroncy of the masses. However, the gaming media & general media compound the issue by focusing on every little remote controversy involving DOA & sexuality-related bullshit. And yes, there are people out there that think DOAX is the main series and the DOA fighting games are the "spinoff".

At times it can be hard to fully appreciate how much DOA's reputation has been fucking it over the years.

@Force_of_Nature I really feel like its a combination of both. Commercials and ads like the one you've got there do the franchise no favors, but people also choose to outright block out the sexuality put forth in other games. Mai's bouncing tits, Cammy and Mika's asses hanging out for almost 3 decades. Like sex is everywhere, but people only choose to see it in this game for some reason.
