I typically do buy my games new because I don't like owning a used copy, but blocking out that ability is still bad business practice. This will hurt more than help.
There's a massive difference between a $20k car and a $60 piece of software. You SHOULD always buy new in an industry like this. GTFO with your ridiculous comparisons. As for hardware and movies, I do always buy new. Some people actually do the things they say they do.
This only hurts MS. PS4 and Wii U will be more visible simply because Gamespot many limit the number of X1 used games they take in because who knows how they will do on resell. However, Gamestop isn't stupid, they adjust prices for games with online passes, they may do the same for X1
The Gamestop CEO saw the Xbox One a while back and was happy with it. That tells me they'll do exactly what they do with games with an online pass and that also tells me it'll likely not be an exorbitant fee. Again, I know this puts MS in a bad light. I just like where they're coming from and it may even inspire more developer loyalty.
And what if there is an older game that is no longer in production anymore? Should you be punished and spend more money on a game you had to buy used because you couldn't find it new? I bought my car in 2005. They stopped making them in 2001. But I guess to take it off the lot I have to pay an extra fee for the keys right?
Your analogy is off raansu...really what's more like is buying a tag for your car. It's still a fuck up way to go about it but it all but promises that a developer gets compensation on used titles. It all depends on how game stop handles it.
People are blowing it out of proportion because this industry treats its customers like second rate citizens and it's the only industry that makes such a massive deal about used games. I shouldn't have to pay a fee for a used game, or for borrowing my friends copy. And don't tell me you've never borrowed a movie or game before, because you'd be lying out of your ass.
I do borrow movies and games, yes. I don't do it often but I do it. I also typically go out and buy them if I like them. I don't see this as any different than an online pass. Just more universal.
And since PS4 and Wii don't do it it will be easier to fairly assess pricing. Even if the fee is like 20 bucks it doesn't matter prices on X1 stay competitive. The bigger issue comes later in the generation when games that used to be under 15 cost more because game stop can't be selling a bunch of 1 and 2 dollar games.
Still a used games fee is a big deal and the WiiU is so ass I bet they still will sell less than Sony and MS. One thing people are not mentioning though is the online. Way too busy hating on it to talk about that seamless matchmaking. What triple the amount of servers? I can honestly say Im looking forward to playing online.
I'd have liked some actual gameplay today to get me excited about it. They basically tossed around numbers and expected the gamers to smile and nod and be happy for the other people that actually cared about what they were sharing. I'm on board with Microsoft and Live and I'll be buying in again. I love their franchises and Live. I'd like to see more bullets in the good column, though.
I'd like more focus on gaming...you know like when the 360 launched? This kinnect gimmick and "all in one box" is worthless to me. I can do all that on my pc.
Hence my other status. As a gamer I was mostly annoyed by this 'reveal.' I just like the idea of putting a dent in the used games market. I don't get the logic behind affecting sales figures of a franchise or game you like just to save $5. I do like being able to lend a friend a game or borrow one from someone, but this whole thing seems to be stemming from a feature that allows us to play games without the discs.
They did deem it "a new xbl" so I guess it makes sense no xbla games carry over. I hope this new xbl is cost effective for patching. Some good arcade games never got patched due to costs. I would like proof that online is good rather than them talk about it I agree.
