I always thought that DOA was the poor man's VF mechanic wise since the games are more similar? And tbh DOA isn't really the first game to have frame data, all games have it but it's just a matter of using the resources to show it to the players. Harada always kept the data hidden since he felt he wanted players to learn it on their own which itself isn't that easy tho

Nah, DoA is VF's special needs, masturbation-addicted cousin. Tekken has rules more akin to VF just not so much so mechanically at times. It has strike punishes, plus on block, sidestep behavior(A lil) and half-tracking etc. Tekken had the same battle designer as VF's.

Both DoA and Tekken had more nuances, or rather less so to VF. Both franchises strayed farther and farther from their VF foundation. SC had it longer until all the meters and stuff. Albeit both still retain ringouts and movement is more similar to VF, as well as a focus on neutral.

Sidestepping in SC when no one is attacking is like VF's offensive move while the crouch dashing in DoA is more VF's. I Forget if sC has a reverse crouch dash.
