The funniest part of it was that I'm an established name in the community and have been around since the beginning. This guy, while notably good at trials in RE, is someone I've never heard of before this game. Will to Succeed his name is.
He sent me a message that said "last try...then once you get better we can play more..." after we failed three times. We beat it right away on the next when I stopped spinning 360Y with the ninja and played properly with Momiji. I had also not played at all before we started. Annoying.
Eh I'll just be happy to be done with these. Two left and I can just grind out level 99 and be completely done with RE. Great game but the trials are still in need of a re-work. Seeing Genshin look at me and fire a Void at my partner (with the animation going at me, mind) and instantly ending the trial in failure is getting old.
Couldn't agree more. Haven't been arsed to do them myself for reasons like that. I'm not too obsessed with getting the platinum trophy to endure some of RE's annoyances without proper return. That said, I've been putting it on the sidelines for my creative projects and DOA, so there's still a lot more I want to do in it.
That's because Black was an incredible challenge but you could play it 'normally' without having to resort to spamming a move because it was ridiculously overpowered and praying. Mostly praying. I developed non-loop strategies for every boss on Black with every weapon. I miss the days of not requiring loops and spamming.
Also, none of the bosses had an auto-dodge that worked until they chose to hit you or be hit. Can't tell you how annoying it is to see the beret guys or the later blade fiends do that shit.
Razor's Edge has great gameplay and very few control and gameplay issues. You should come at it with a fresh mindset because I honestly rank it above NG2 in the gameplay department. Black set the standard for the action genre and has yet to be topped, but RE deserves a fair look.
Auto-targeting got worse from NG2->RE (amazing that's even possible), the delay after attacking and dodgin in RE got more ridiculous, enemy AI is less consistent and cheaper, etc.
RE has great gameplay for an action game, but does not meet NG2, let alone Black, in my humble opinion.
The targeting issues only become apparent to me with SoB (and Kasumi seems more or less immune to that). My biggest gripe is the dead zone on the sticks for dodging. Having to move the stick all the way to the outside of the range of motion makes me miss dodges a lot because I prefer quicker, precise movement.
All those long-ass grabs are still in RE (Zedonious comes back, for example). And that's weird. Ryu's refusal to ever, ever attack a Van Gelf with ANYTHING has been far more pointlessly irritating than any auto-targeting issues I delt with in 2.
