People have been pulling for saberfaces during the last five years. At least Genshin Impact's gameplay is more involved. Maybe it'll push future gacha games in the right direction (hopefully without ruining consoles games). I'm interested in GFL 2:Exilium, even if it's just anime XCOM.

yeah, Genshin's gameplay actually feeling a game and less like collecting jpeg's of waifus certainly helps, same reason I liked Honkai impact so much, yeah it was gacha but the gameplay was fun, I have no doubt we're gonna see imitators in the future but hey, if developers wanna make console gacha games that are F2P friendly and have an entertaining gameplay loop, go for it

I might be wrong but it is so successful that it is getting new content, under the form of new characters. Can the Unknown God become playable too later down the line? That design is way too sick, it'd be a shame if the character would only be a boss(?, haven't played the game yet but I assume she's a boss if she's a primary antagonist) character.

Also, from what I've seen around, yes, most of them are hungry for anime waifus but males get enough attention too, Diluc seems to be a liked character by many for example and he's a male.

tru tru, Diluc is definitely is the most popular husbando of the bunch, Zhong li is a distant second despite not being playable (yet), but the rest of the males don't seem to get any love, maybe it's cause they look like shotas or k pop members? who knows

diluc is hugely successful because he appealed to both the crowd that likes brooding pretty boys and the crowd that wants to unga smash through the game (like my friend who wasn't really into anime)
also i'm fairly sure the males are actually the most populated group so far. even the next two 5 stars are males
