Was cool stuff, (not to down anyone's parade by the way) we still have to remember that Square Enix was against this before. They sent Cease & Desist letters to the guy Monty before and he wasn't even doing it for money. If there's anyone that's incredibly stingy and stubborn as their IP similar to Nintendo, it's Square.

It's why when it comes to Dead Fantasy in general, I think the nostalgia makes some oblivious that Square doesn't appreciate it. Personally i'm not against this as crossovers are always cool, but if it's Square specifically or anything involving with them to DOA related, I just be like "just let it go at some point". If I had it my way, I'd tell people to keep doing it, looks dope.

Nintendo and Square are incredibly traditional companies (Nintendo especially). They can feel stuck in the early 2000's with their mentalities at times. Squeenix got better once they acquired Eidos, strengthening their understanding of Western markets. Square views Dead Fantasy as a potential risk to the integrity of characters such as Yuna, Rikku and particularly Tifa.

But yeah, it needs to be treated like how Microsoft and Sony treat streaming & content sharing. If it doesn't physically hurt your company, and actually boosts your profile instead through added exposure, then just roll with it! People can tell the difference between fan-made content and official content.
