How accessible is this game if you have no history with final fantasy? Can you enjoy it regardless or will I just be alienated by all the fanservive and references?

As someone who has been skeptical about this game for years, I can definitely tell you that even if you're not a Final Fantasy fan and all the references fly over your head, it's at least worth 6 months of your time. The experience is even better if you have experienced friends to help you progress quickly along the way. My best advice is to pace yourself and not feel pressured to play catchup with everyone else.

@Camel with 2 thumbs Awesmic nailed it actually. Very accessible as you don't have to play a single other FF game for it and probably the most casual friendly of MMOs too imo. Own entity really.
