Someone I know actually just quit because a build he used wasn't effective anymore against some snake guy. In a way, Elden Ring sorta exposed some of the playerbase with approaching a game.
nO BuiLd? unbalanced. unplayable.
oh there's buiLD!?! Elden Ring is the best game in history. The DLC? 10/10.
Personally I like builds in games because it's the theory discovering of your gear, but it is a bit depressing that it becomes the main mindset to how Elden Ring players discuss the game.
Elden Ring PVE basegame is easygoing enough where you can brute force your way through it with weeabo anime builds using flashy but impractical weapons
Elden Ring's DLC is a watershed moment that requires you to play basic fundamental Dark Souls to succeed, so I can see why alot of players got thrown off
that said, the real Dark Souls players will find a way and succeed, while the all the normal folks who hoped on the Elden Ring hype train will get mad and complain about how "Miyazaki ruined my build! this game is unplayable!" and bugger off to the next big thing, which I have no problem with, Elden Ring's playerbase was in need of a good pruning anyway
