In the past year they've only done two things right but it seems that the idea of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" isn't applied by TN. I've seen characters get nerfed for ridiculous reasons... and I'm just over it man. DOA5U better be sufficient on September 3rd or I'm out for good.
Hayate looks like one of the strongest characters in 5U. Rikuto and others who went to Summer Jam seem to think he's doing quite well. He certainly hasn't gone "downhill."
He's got potential but a teleport doesn't make up for the flaws in his character build. Also I'm pretty sure we've gone over the "you don't play Hayate" deal. If you do now thne excuse me... but I doubt you touched him in 3 or 4 either. Compared to those days, 5 Hayate isn't anything compared to them.
A teleport isn't going to completely turn that around nor is a gimmicky fake out flip that gives a minimal reward for being landed. I like the teleport idea that they went with, but that's about it. Oh and H+K's stun coming back is good but that's something that was in 4 so now that's put back where it was in 4 (except unholdable stun now)
Take it however you want. There's other characters that I feel were robbed from 4 to 5 as well (Ryu being included). TN has made questionable choices... you have to admit that.
I do admit that, and while it would be nice for there to be better balancing, there really aren't "trash" characters in vanilla (save perhaps Eliot). None that would warrant dropping the character or the game altogether. Certainly not Hayate or Ryu.
Yea. Hayate does have his redeeming qualities. He just lost everything that made him interesting + important tools for his disposal which is another reason he's neglected. He's not interesting anymore. It makes you question why they don't bring him back to his roots that made him interesting in 4. Reaching DOA3 status requires good frames... but that's all... and everyone needs better frames (except Vf characters)
An example of a really bad choice was crossing wind dash K with its DOA4 properties. Back then, a 15i 50 damage (30+20) poke was fine because you were up close. A 32i safe poke (granted it high crushes in the stance portion) is not worth risking especially since life is more than in DOA4 and it's 46 damage now.
If I'm going to risk 32 frames to get that kick, I want my launcher, unsafe or not.
Right, and if I could have it my way, he'd have both because they serve different purposes that could be helpful to him. I explain this a lot in other topics but here's my views on the wind dashes. (It's in the quote box)
Idk if this is your view but if you're thinking, "why should he get two stances?". Collaboratively, the amount of options he has wouldn't even stack up to be as many as Ryu gets out of his Ongyoin or as many as Christie gets out of her Jak (never you mind that she has her roll stance as well, which got a direct input to her guard break).
