I had a feeling that would happen.
I've actually been seriously considering one of these, so please, tell me all of your experiences with it if you can. Whether it's worth it, works all right... those sorts of things.

I had Roxio before Elgato, it worked fine. Had some sound issues, but other than that it was good enough. Elgato ( i've recorded 1 DOA match with it as a test ) was fine.

I sadly can't record 720 & 1080 though =\ my laptop starts spazzing out. So obviously you'd need a pretty good computer to record HD stuff but if you're fine with bearable quality both are fine.

Unless you have a crazy computer, then Elgato is pretty simple for the most part. Got a bit confusing when you had to switch the settings up to fool the console- then quickly plug the HDMI into the Elgato game capture box so it can register it... took me a couple hours to figure it out rofl. ( it didn't say anything about doing that on the instructions! )

Sounds like a pain, haha. What would I need aside from the PS3 in terms of hardware? Certain A/V chords or output/inputs? Monitors? Computer slots? etc.

MY PC has some pretty good specs since it's a desktop, but it's been having some problems lately.

Nothing lol =P the Elgato game capture comes with everything, and I'm assuming you have a HDMI for your PS3 so that's it. That is all you need. Most game captures come with everything, and they would want to considering the price you pay for them! If you do go for it, let me know and I'll link you the the video that helped me get mine to work. ( due to fail instructions! )

I have it as well.

There are probably better game captures out there! =] So you could probably look that up if you're planning on buying one. I just went with Elgato cause it was the only game capture they had here, and I heard it was pretty good... so yeah!

There's a lock on HDMI for the PS3 console. You may be forced to use the composite cables. Same as the PVR2 etc.

The requirements for the Elgato is actually very small. You just need at least 1GB of RAM and a good speed.

@Brute - You should get one. There is a HCI lock which prevents most games for getting captured with 1080p. Majority of the games you are forced to capture 720p which is still good. 1080p uses up alot of memory on a video file regardless.

Some stereo receivers can fool the lock on PS3. What I do is plug everything (HDMI ) into the receiver then the capture card then TV. The only thing that sucks is the capture card must be on/powered see anything. I use an HD PVR2 it very reliable though.

Everything that was "supposed" to work, didn't for me. I had sound issues, visual issues... literally took me like 2 hours to find a solution for them. Buuuut everything seems to screw up with me xD just have bad luck I guess.

Whats the issue? maybe I can help I've delt with all kinds of fun stuff. Like audio synch issues to no picture but the sound comes out.

I use the same monitor for my computer and PS3 (just switch inputs). Would that be an issue at all?

@Brute - There is a lock for HDMI port for a console. (Not sure why this is enabled.) But as Dr snipe said, there is a way to bypass this issue..although it requires an extra time ahead and a tutorial video. Honestly speaking..it's really not worth it to really get it with an HDMI. Composite cables can reach 1080p but only to what the game says...unlike HDMI which can hit 1080p even if the game says 720p.

The less hassle work is the PVR2 since all you really need is a computer/laptop for the wires to reach the PVR2..while the PVR2 is connected to the HDTV. You just have to make sure your TV/Monitor supports the composite cable slots. (The composite are the (Green,Red,Blue,White wires.)
