IMO, SCV is like opposite DOA5U. DOA has a game system that is actually well thought-out and balanced, weighing mind games and reaction/execution well for fair play between two players of equal skill. However, it's character roster is horribly imbalanced, with some characters just wiping the floor with others.
SCV's character roster is actually not bad in terms of balance. Almost every has their own dumb things to stay in the game (often said things are way TOO dumb, but that's for another time). However, the system mechanics themselves are wonky and uneven at best. The it's not the characters that are imbalanced, imo, it's the system itself that doesn't allow for balance.
Though I would like to see a 3 point system on the just guards. the 2 point system in SC2 was a little.... yeah At least mod the 4G if you're going that route
Without it, some characters would be ridiculous. I mean really, how would you fight Kilik and Taki? Taki you can play keep-out, but once she gets in, you might as well just toss it up as game over. Kilik would just screw everyone. And Nightmare... man if you don't have range, Nightmare would become God.
Nightmare has always been extremely telegraphed, Depending who you use you can actually counterpoke taki due to the fact her strings leave her at a slight disadvantage, i still can do so and i main ivy who actually gets murdered by taki if you're not careful and kilik i don't recall kilik that well since nobody i know ever used him
Nightmare is telegraphed, but if you have no range or just guards, you'd basically just be whiffed baiting him all day and hoping the recovery is high enough you can dash in without a quick-poke intercept. And sure you can counter-poke Taki, but her advantage goes up heavily without JGs and she's already one of the better characters.
