EIn and Hayate are different. Hayate is a very well rounded character capable of being offensive and defensive and has many tools to accomplish this. HIs flaw is that he lacks mixups and is unsafe.
Ein is defensive. He is more about whiff punishment and capitalizing on your opponents mistakes. He lacks offensive tools (he lacks tools in general) but his range game is among the best in the game.
Unfortunately there are not many characters in the game that have both godly mixups and whiff punishment. Hayate is decent at both but FAAARRR from the best. If thats what you want Ayane or Momiji would be better, though Momiji's mixups are better in the stun game than outside of it IMO. Outside of it they are pretty meh.
I can't stand Ayane's spinning and she seems complicated, so she's out of the question I'm afraid. I tried Momiji out and she seems fun I guses, but she's boring to play imo (sorry Momiji)
I played Ein in arcade mode and I liked how he can be played far away. But he seemed a bit slow, unless I'm clearly playing him wrongly. And I wasn't sure how good his lows were. I don't if Hayate has a good range game either. I guess I would prefer a character with a good keepout game (?) but doesn't have too many strings and combos to remember. Sorry I sound really noobish right now DX!
Yes Eins lows are terrible. He isnt that slow but he does have problems against fast characters. His low punch helps him to even out the playing field a little. Hayate can play Keepout but his keepout isnt as good as Eins. If keepout game with not too many strings and combos is what you want Ein, Jann Lee and Hayate are your men.
2P is probably the best low he has next 1K, 2K and his low OH. If you want soem serious help with Ein watch Allan Parris' beginner guide it tells you everything about Ein's playstyle. It tought me alot and I wouldn't be as I am now without that guide I'd still be a PPP mashing mess I was back at launch of 5U.
1K6P isnt a close range tool; its more of an approach tool. His P, 3P and 2P as well as 4P are his best close range tools. I also made a huge guide on Ein in his forums so If you have any questions feel free to ask me.
OK I'm going to prioritise Ein, followed by Hayate and Jann Lee if I really am not feeling it, because I'm failing so badly with Kasumi and MR. Thanks very much Tenryuga for your help! I'm really grateful you took the time to explain everything in detail to me ! I'll definitely check out your guide in the forums!
Thanks UpSideDownGRUNT for your tips on how to play him. I'll look up the guide you mentioned !
Be sure to ask me about anything that confuses you. Not sure if youre new to fighting games or understand frame data and things like that but stuff like that is mentioned in the guide so it could be overwhelming. I'm always glad to help if you're on PSN as well.
I've been playing fighting game since I was a kid, but DOA5U is my first attempt at the franchise since a few months ago. Truth be told I don't study frame data (a bit confusing and lazy - FAIL), so I should really try to understand it now. I'm on PSN too - its ray-kt1 .
If you do start looking at frames let me know. Theres alot of shortcuts you can use without having to memorize every little number. (lets be honest no one actually sits there all day long looking at EVERY single number lol). My PSN is just Tenryuga so add me and ill walk you through basic Ein sometime.
"Theres alot of shortcuts you can use without having to memorize every little number." What have I been doing all this time Ten? Here I thought I had to memorize all those numbers lol.
Damn I guess I had the differences between the two all wrong lol. I think the best the focus of studying the frame data is focusing on moves that you use moves the most(thats what I do at least). And glad to see you're join the Ein army JKT!
