What gives you difficulty in SoulCalibur?

Everything. xD Movement, having 2 attack buttons with 1 kick rather than 1 punch 1 kick (I come from a VF background too), and buffering is kind of weird. For example if I use a low attack that makes me crouch and want to repeat it I have stand all the way back up to do it again or else I'll get the crouching attack.

For movement make a single tap of the D-pad as opposed to mashing backdashes or wavedashes. In terms of gameplay, I find SC easier to play than DOA since most combos and moves are fairly easy (unless you're playing a JF-intensive character like Alpha). Use A attacks to kill step and B attacks to nail crouchers. Kicks are used to interrupt slower attacks.

SC isn't too hard. I can help you :). Basically everything that Force said. You can try to learn Natsu but it might be better if you learn one of the Greeks (Pyrrha or Patroklos) for your fundamentals. Then, once you've learned the fundamentals and are decent at that, then you should move to Natsu. I'll add you to a convo.

I am very slow and moreso visual with these kinds of things so be warned, ninja. xD Is there something out there like Emperor's video series guide to DOA for SC..?
