Why Christie at number 2? I say Ayane is better than her. I still wouldnt believe Ayane being 2 or Christie. I was leaning more towrds Leifang or Sarah.
GenFu and Christie have been the 2 characters essentially that have won the most 5U major tournaments. Apart from Hajin & Gill, Ayane generally fairs not as well as GenFu or Christie in offline events. Christie is more well-rounded than Ayane and can apply pressure a lot better than her.
Sarah is a tricky one because she dominates the "lower-tiered" characters but struggles a bit against the other "high-tiers". LeiFang's a different case as in she deals with the other high-tiers very well, but doesn't really dominate anyone (I.e. She's practically almost a proverbially 5:5 across the board).
I still dont see Christie being better than Ayane. Yea she has been cracking jaws in many offline events but I dont think that fully, or even halfly, explains it. Ayane can pretty much take control of the match from pretty much anywhere. She isnt good upclose like Christie or Helena but she can make it work, like Christie with long range fighting.
If you think about it, Christie can barely open you up on block. Her throws and holds are arguably the worst in the game. Ayane has some of the best holds and throws or atleast she has better throws than most. Christie's throws are only scary at walls. But Christie surely has the better stuns, and arguably the best in the game. Ayane even seems to have....
Ayane's ranged fighting is amazing, but in close range, Christie and Helena can rape the opponent much harder with continuous pressure. Ayane's "continuous pressure" is limited for the most part. There's a reason why the average Christie or Helena player generally makes it further in tourneys than the average Ayane player. Christie also handles ranged fighting just fine. Helena on the other hand...
better environmental combos. Imo, Ayane has the better lows and obviously the superior spacing and tracking. Idk about crushes with these too. Christie also doesnt have the best of an oki game. Ayane has plenty of ways to get guaranteed damage, better at whiff punishing (as in punishing with other attacks) and her keep out is fabulous.
Christie has a lot of FC-ing capabilities to open someone up, along with GB's (and there's also 4T for a reset). Ayane can't exactly pressure someone on block either, though her throws are pretty amazing. Christie is also able to fight comfortably at any range and has the 2nd best command SS in the game.
Christie doesnt really have a good keepout except 7k or jak 6p+k. Both of which are SSable but luckily, jak 6p+k is +0. Comparing to Ayane, Christie is safer. She doesnt have good CH launches though. Maybe her 33p or jak p is the most viable because her 8k is very slow and can be interupted.
Ayane's keepout is nice, but she can be fairly reliant on it against certain opponents such as Christie herself. Christie's tracking is no slouch itself, some of the best tracking with a personal fav of mine H+KK. Christie's oki is fine with various ways to beat out WU Kicks and to stay on her opponent. Ayane's not as versatile with dealing with the ground game as Christie and has to back off fairly often.
Christie's only "good" GB is 4p+k, and its best when fully charged. Making it very easy to see, but she can cancel it so thats a plus. She cant necessarily fight from range, she can just close gaps fast. She is very good at mid range though. Ayane is nowhere near good as Christie upclose but she does open ppl up easier. Making them scared to block low or high.
Ayane's P, 2P, 1P and grabs are great but Christie's 6PP~ is a freaking godlike tool. Her 1P & 2H+K's aren't exactly terrible either. Against ranged characters like Ayane, closing gaps is perfectly fine. Christie also has much better low-crushes than Ayane.
But I will say, Christie does have one of the bst moves in the game which is 214p. Evades all moves at correct range, an automatic high crush, SDS on NH, with guaranteed followups and even a guaranteed CB. And Christie has her very tricky moments with the hold restraining flurry punches (e.g. 3ppp) that are safe.
Christie seems to only dominate close range, wall game, and stun game. Ayane has pretty much everything she needs. Decent pressure in stun, luxurious spacing, very viable holds and throws, tracking, keepout, whiff punishing, and an okay up close game. Ayane also has a great 2p (+2 is it?).
Yup, I agree. It's settled then. 214P is also godlike and her Machinegun fists being only -5 with the potential for a GB or an Attack Throw is also amazing. I <3 Christie's pressure
I do like Christies 6pp but I find 3p, 3pp, 3ppp and 3ppjak way better. Due to 3p being a lift stun, 3ppp causes hold restraint (also chargeable punch leading into a guaranteed bound and the charge itself is cancelable into jak) and 3ppjak leading into more mixups.
