Have not seen Kill la kill so I'll reserve judgement on it, but I know it is over the top and zany like Gurren Lagann, and depending on your tastes that might not be your cup of tea. If you'd like to see action-adventure and little bit of romance in a fantasy setting, choose SAO. If you want a supernatural, psychological thriller choose Death Note. Between the two, DN was more enjoyable for me and would be my pick.
