Well, at least you're getting it dealt with immediately. What's actually bad is if you just ignored it for a few days like my friend did. You should be okay.
I've had appendicitis. Though, I've had my appendix taken out without open surgery (using a sucking tube), and if it hasn't exploded, I would suggest for them to do that (mine was ruptured). The recovery is faster, but the problem is you will have a lot of gas.
The age in which most people have it removed is between 20 - 25. I remember in college, I had 5 friends get their appendix taken out within a 2 month time period.
They don't? I had mine taken out in 2006, so it was kind of a long time ago. I thought if it burst, they had to do open surgery, and if it didn't, you had the option of having it sucked out?
I got mine out 2011, they didn't say anything about options.
I'm sure the surgeons prefer using the tube that leaves you with a laceration so small they close it with superglue than make a wide cut and do open surgery followed by stitches that need to get removed.
