This is a contradiction, in games as the fighting ones where already exist offline single player modes for being immediately into the action. If you play the story mode is mainly because you want see these cutscenese, if then you like it or less it's another matter, but I don't think there is hurry to fight... just because if you want play against I.A. "X" character you can simply use the versus mode.

I could understand what you say for other kind of games where some players could decide to play offline without losing time but they can do only the story mode, as for example FPS. But again, all this is right for the first playthrough, then you will simply jump the cutscenes if you wish so...

I guess you have a point @Kronin. I guess the reason I posted this is cuz of the fact that I was watching some story modes on YouTube. I managed to stick around and finish the MKX story, then I decided to watch the MK9 story. Maybe since I'm not playing the games myself is the reason. MKX's story was ok for a good 2 hours, but It does feel better playing it while watching the game instead of just watching.

Well, this isn't suirprising, after all we are talking of the story mode for a game: the story has to be a way to make more interesting and with a reason behind the fights of the mode, so this is a support to the active role of the player and not a passive one (as can be a movie). Surely you can see it more interesting when you are playing the game.

It depends on the game for me. Personally, I like DOA's story mode and like to watch every cutscene because I'm truly interested. However, take Soul Calibur V for example. I didn't like that story mode at all, and just wished I could play instead of watching that boring story.

On a personal note, I wish I could spoil myself on some games that I have yet to play like the Uncharted series, Last of Us, etc, but part of me does not want to simply watch the cutscenes online even if it means I'll never in life play em. It kinda sucks, but what can you do?

Yes, I understand that feeeling. I spoiled myself MK9 because everyone was talking so good of the story mode of a game that it was never able to interest me in the past (and indeed I'm passionate of the series only since MK9).

But I refused to do it for the games that I really care for and I know to have a great story, as for example the MGS saga (where I spoiled me only part of Raiden's awesomeness in MGS4 xD) or Last of Us (where I spoiled me only the sweet and sad prologue).

The funny and silly thing is that I never got a PS4 neither I make plans to buy it on a short time...

Story mode for a FG simply makes no sense to me. You want to play a game for its story, try an RPG.
