I actually make it a point not to comment on someone's craft unless they specifically ask for it. By doing that they indicate to me that they can take a critique.

No, I wasn't being disrespectful. I gave an opinion, and then later (although prompted, admittedly), I gave the OP advice on what he/she can do better.
