Everyone has his opinions and his reasons to play the game, it's not something that can be right or wrong in absolute. Imo the problem is not the care given to the casual side - it's a part of the fans' appreciation too in addition to keep alive the interest - but the disproportionate few care given to the competitive one, something that DoA needs more than other fighting series considering often as it's treated.

I believe that the two things are not exclusionary (or at least with me doesn't work so at all), but it's true that in general it's necessary to put much more dedication, efforts and care in the competitive matter (in addition to a natural predisposition), something that surely is more hard to do. I'm sad that in my personal case I've really no way to compete, neither there is a local scene where I live.

That's fine, but at the end of it all, casual side of things isn't exactly what keeps a fighting game alive. The competitive drive from competitive players is.

That's why Street Fighter has survived for decades, Tekken and Smash. When a game has a good competitive community, the game gets its limelight and will live for a long time.

I agree iHajin, you can continue to keep alive a franchise talking about it's casual side, however not the fighting substance in itself if you don't learn and play it as, indeed, a fighting game. The main point that I wanted do is that reducing the casual one doesn't led to the consequence to improve the fighting one (and viceversa).

I absolutely agree that DoA needs more attention on the competitive side for being alive as a fighting game: things are greatly improved from the times of DoA5 Alpha demo, but it's still far from being enough.

@iHajinShinobi So damn true, specially with Smash, a game perceived by many as not a fighting game but still a real one because of its competitive community.

I'm still working on my projects for Jann Lee (a character not a lot of people care about) and whether it interests people or not i still want to support the competitive community and share the knowledge i have with the character i've been playing for over a decade now. The MASTER mentality if you will lol.

I agree Kronin, but most in the DOA community just simply aren't competitive fighting game players. It's pretty evident.

We need a lot more friendly competition for sure. I can't wait to start coming to tournament scenes and supporting the game.

@Darkslay: Exactly, Smash is the best example out there for expressing how the soul and the life force of a fighting game is indeed represented from the perception and dedication of its fanbase about this side.

@iHajinShinobi what you say it's true, indeed I didn't hide as actually there is a too much disproportion between only casuals and competitive players too. Like I said this is not a fault imo, but if the series want improve its fighting reputation is something that has to change.

I always saw DOAX as the casual side of DOA. Not the fighting games XD

The sad thing is that DOA5 Alpha was on the right track and still looked pretty damn good. Then the casuals bitched and TN succumbed to the pressure and we got the oversexualized DOA5 iterations.

Actually everything has in itself a casual and a competitive side, DoAX is thought with in mind overall the first one (even if I would like a more technical title on the beach volleyball matter), DoA on the second one especially with the 5 series.

However if you have some care for the story, the costumes or anything not related to the effective moveset/mechanics, then you are enjoying the casual side of the game.

If TN stuck by their original DOA5 Alpha vision, I'd be interested to see how the game would of turned out because in my experience people would give DOA5 a chance if someone would educate them on the game treat the game more legitimately.

The "problem" is that the fans of DoA are for the most people that enjoy that side that is a secondary one in the title. While this is not bad in itself (because I repeat everyone is free to like what he wish in it) of course a fighting game can't survive as a such one if people don't play it overall also for the fighting part.

A big problem is that the "casual side" encompasses too much of DOA's fan focus, and DOA5's "casual side" wasn't even that good.

Smash is exactly an example for the opposite case to DoA, because it's a game started as casual but got in consideration from his fans overall - or at least for a very huge part - for its technical sides (hidden at the time of Melee).
