Those models look pretty accurate. Theoretically you can mess with certain stages to allow blue/green screening, however i don't think that's what's going on here. At the same time, though, some of it looks like either TN is more detailed with the models than they should be, or someone's just really good at being accurate. Either way, the content is becoming questionable on other grounds.
He disagrees with my locking of the modding resources thread because modding, in most forms, is only possible on cracked versions of the game. That and sharing of DLC files was running rampant. The comparison isn't even close and multiple people have confirmed to me that you do indeed need to pirate and/or crack the game as current versions disallowed the older ways of modding.
you can force steam not to upgrade the game. Not sure how well that works though as i haven't tried, but it is a thing.
However, while some of those pictures look like they've taken advantage of the exaggerated borders (it's easy to extract characters out of the pictures), some show some reflections that're pretty unbelievable for non-rerendering.
We really should try, at least as a big DoA site, not to make TN/TKs worst fears come true by supporting piracy and model ripping. I know i am fading into obscurity and leaving DoA behind, but it's very clear that has little bearing on the issue.
I'm leaving it locked until someone shows a method that works on the current, legitimate version of the game. I enjoy seeing what people come up with and have posted to that effect in the thread, but the site isn't going to condone anything that amounts to stealing content or the game for the purposes of 'art'.
Technically speaking, even editing the characters out by focusing on their borders is illegal. If they made their own models (and those clearly aren't their own), it would still be illegal, but probably "tolerated" by TN.
You can buy a legit version, then copy the game contents to a separate location, and then apply cracked files where needed to run a separate version of the game. Were some of those files created illegally? Possibly, though it's also illegal to extract the game models for posing purposes,
So yes, minor illegal acts may be required to make them work. But it doesn't necessarily demand you be a full-blown pirate to use the mods. Minor illegal acts are involved in other user-created content that we take no action against.
