I'm no export but shouldn't you be using "Video Shop" to edit videos ?

I put a black bar over the person's name over the whole vid and exported it and like I said it somehow came out 8.8GB. The video is exactly what I wanted but 8.8GB is unacceptable

Download VideoPad. It's free. Create a rectangle image, then overlay it on top of the video where the person's name is.
Save as .avi. Done.
Save as .avi. Done.
