How is guest characters considered shame? Didn't know "guest" characters were a bad thing.

To start, guest characters are one of the ultimate businesses you can think of. Having such characters is breaking barriers here and other higher reputation companies to accept your work as legitimate.

Guest collaboration is more high standard and better payout than general businesses. It's like Pepsi working with Sprite. It's like battery companies working together to create the ultimate battery that lasts for a year rather than buying a battery that lasts for 6 hours.

DOA's reputation within the "Fighting Community" is the mechanics. DOA's reputation as a whole that causes a completely different look is the sex appeal. You can't please neither crowd. The only one with sympathy is the top one because not everyone is catered to a mechanic. People prefer SF over KOF and vice-versa, that's just how life works.

Guest trends will be around until DOA gets rebooted. Even Tom feels that way. That trend is going to keep going for a long time. People should be glad that it's even a thing. The issue here is that there are bad guests and "good guests." It all depends on the decision TN made and the only bad decision they ever made was Naotora. Oh wow one mistake, big deal who cares, find more partners.

I can agree about the "bad" guest characters (Yoda in SC etc.) however extremely well thought guest characters are considered new characters technically speaking and I don't see how it's a problem. Capcom is working on a new Rival schools and they are already trying to include a character outside of Capcom. Why? because it's good business returns.

The spirit of DOA is still there. It isn't going anywhere. Adding these is fueling it to take it as a more legitimate fighter and because of that, it's done a way better job than how it was in the past so why stop there.

@DestructionBomb guest characters date a game. When doa6 comes out ppl will cry that mai and akira aren't in it bc licenses don't last forever. So why not just make an original character that you won't have to pay for in the future. It's a short term strategy. Put all the eggs in the doa5 basket and not care what might become of doa6

@Giannola Mila and Rig were new characters for DOA5, and People still wanted more old characters from previous games to come back, Look at Tengu, he got replaced by Nyotengu.
Even with said characters players still want more, and if Team ninja see profit, they will put more guests in,

@Giannola - Team NINJA has a contract with SEGA for another 4+ years and 8+ years with Square ENIX (Dissidia). Sega develops their arcades and hosts their talk shows. Contracts depends on what they contracted for. Even Namco has a contract with Sega.

The point being is that guest characters are technically speaking "new" characters whether you choose to believe to or not.

We will simply move on to a new character, DOA6 is not for a very long time regardless and even I'm waiting for DOA6.

Original characters are always accepted like absolutely, but they are never the fuel to everyone's problems and doesn't triple TN's business plans.

Funny how DOA5LR has 6 guest characters yet it doesn't detract from the game in any way and brought interest from outside parties within the FGC. Whenever I get a VF player into DOA, what is the first thing they gravitate towards? Akira, Sarah, Jacky or Pai. What do KOF players ask me about when they see me training DOA? "How's Mai in this game? Is she good?"

At this point in the game, adding original characters doesn't attract nearly as much attention as a guest. I.e. Mai was an absolutely brilliant inclusion. Naotara is still rubbish however lol.

I can understand this. At this point the whole genre is under guest character fatigue. Doesn't help when MK, Killer Instinct 3, etc pump these out. I would say for DoA 5 it's not too bad considering the DoA characters ratio vs guests are still fine even if VF has a tad too many guests here. Seriously even Naotora is a better idea then yet another VF because at least she is a different kind of guest.

Having 4 VF guests is kind of interesting because it teases the whole: "DOA x VF" between the two franchises. It helps too with how well they mesh in with DOA's mechanics & roster. They add in a sense of uniqueness gameplay-wise too without breaking the game in any way.

On proper visual sense, I treat guest characters the exact same as general new characters because in technical sense they are both new to the series. Guest characters have a higher ratio to not be a copy and pasted character from within the roster, one of the main reasons why I say yes to them.
VAND1TA
VAND1TA
examples of copy and paste characters are.
Hitomi = Ein
Elliot= Gen fu
Alpha , Phase 4 = Kasumi

when you got 3 almost the same character, you know they are too lazy to think of a new fighting style for a character.

Ok, this blew up while i was away. Ok, what i don't like about guest characters, is exactly the fact that they don't belong to the I.P. we can have spin off titles for that, but i honestly think that guests shouldn't be a thing on the main games of a series.
Sotherius
Sotherius
And i think the VF characters are great in DOA, and Mai is also a great adittion, but, the game is already something else, and not only DOA.
Sotherius

And similar playstyles is a thing in a lot of fighting games, is not much about lazyness, but about something being so good or loved that you just want to put more of it, see shotos in Street Fighter, etc.

@Sotherius well on that we have to agree to disagree.
