To me, it feels like teching in general is trickier in 2U than in 5. Not to say that it's difficult, but it feels like the timing is more strict in some cases.

timing for tech rolls is definitely more lenient in 5 as opposed to 2, and 5 provides alot more opportunities to tech roll as opposed to 2, but i guess with the addition of a force tech mechanic makes that necessary. who wants to play a game with force tech but limited opportunities to tech roll, which if i recall is one of the things that made doa4 such a pain

4's ability to tech roll was pretty lame because you could basically do it after everything. I don't think any grapplers ever had guaranteed ground throws and ceiling stuns were pretty lame because even those could be tech rolled too.
