    DOA5: A New Challenger - Trailer Analysis

Sorry, just spotted another mechanic worth mentioning: After watching it a few times, I just noticed during 1152-1179 (about 32 seconds in) after Kasumi blocks Ayane's string, Kasumi attacks with :6::P::6::K: (not :6::P::K: as stated). Does that string familiar to anyone? It's a classic/pre-DOA4...

    DOA5: A New Challenger - Trailer Analysis

Akira's moves have a lot of attributes related to Kokoro's style- stance switch throws, elbow knockbacks, hell, even his jumping kicks. People who play Kokoro will love Akira, lol. Nice write-up btw, you probably wrote that up pretty quick though, just want to point out a few things I spotted-...

Hayashi: "[DOA5 is] trying to push the envelope for fighting games"

I wouldn't be surprised if there will be some type of collaboration between the two in the distant future, haha. Virtua Fighter and Soulcalibur are most likely the top candidates for cross-overs. Tekken was pretty high up there as well, but that got thrown out with Tekken X Street Fighter.

Itagaki: DOA is "like having given a daughter off to be married."

VERY classy response from the father of DOA. Despite the past differences between Tecmo and Itagaki-san (w/ the Team Ninja members who also left), I'm sure he's looking forward to DOA5 and NG3 with as much hype as the fans. I'm looking forward to his current projects; the man knows how to make...

Hayashi: "[DOA5 is] trying to push the envelope for fighting games"

I would take Hayashi-san's statements with a grain of salt. I'm not expecting huge gameplay changes despite what was said, or will be said. Being the face and leader of Team Ninja, he's just stirring up hype for the game. Interview statements on consumer gaming website's like Eurogamer and not...

Virtua Fighter Final Showdown coming to consoles 2012

I played SF3 competitively for years, and as technical as that game is, it is no where near as deep as Virtua Fighter. The depth mostly comes from frame traps, the oki's, open/closed stances, throw/block system, sabakis, counter options and option selects. Also worth noting literally every move...

    TGS 2011 Trailer Breakdown

Haha yeah, I stopped reading reviews a looong time ago, for any genre. Sadly, the masses don't agree.

    TGS 2011 Trailer Breakdown

If we're basing it off of SF4's mechanic, that's not to say Hayate also took a beating; I counted at least 8 hits which included at least a hold and a Izuna Drop, more than enough to get his life down in todays standard. In retrospect, It could very well be like MVC3 or Garou mark of the Wolves...

    TGS 2011 Trailer Breakdown

That would still act as a comeback mechanic, timed inputs or not. The premise of an opponent in permanent disadvantage with no recourse is what was showcased - though like Rikuto said, I use the term recourse lightly, as it wasn't showcased that move(s) can be held or dropped. Though for the...

    TGS 2011 Trailer Breakdown

It's actually a very early build, the process goes like something along these lines: * Pre-Alpha > Alpha > Beta > Release. The trailer is by no means a valid representation of the final build, and they seem to emphasize that point in the intro. Just curious, what do you mean by DOA4-like...

    TGS 2011 Trailer Breakdown

With stuns and wall mechanics still in play, I'd say it's largely the same engine. No HUD forces us to guess the requirements of executing that 'super' (charge + hit on counter?), but that addition alone will definitely change people's fighting styles in DOA5. I mentioned this in another...

DOA5: The game is finally announced

Based on the dramatic character redesigns (Hayate's face/hair, clothes) - I wouldn't be surprised if they're actually progressing the character age timeline, which would be great news for followers of DOA lore. This might be an attempt to also adhere to paranoid suits (soccer moms?) about...

    Dead or Alive 5 Announced!

This looks AWESOME. They're using the same art style as the Ninja Gaiden series (which always had a mature look compared to past anime-looking'ish DOA's). Kasumi looks great!

New to FSD? Introduce yourself here.

Hey guys, Old school player here; I remember playing the original in arcades as a teen back in the day, which lead to subsequent console purchases of each release as far as I can remember. Despite all the flak it gets from certain demographics, I can proudly say growing up with DOA has been...
