Yes it is. I bought a wired 360 controller only a month ago with Xbox 360 packaging (instead of the PC packaging, which I also have one of). They don't make them anymore but they are still relatively easy to find. Picked mine up in a Best Buy.

As far as tournament players go, which this thread is exclusively geared towards, most play mainly on 360, though most of us also have PS3 controllers just in case. Being able to use the controller we're most comfortable at on the system with the most stable version of the game is a no-brainer.

We have video proof that the game runs better on 360 than PS3. It just wasn't enough to get it switched at TFC (too late, basically).

Make sure your seat isn't reclined at all and that your legs aren't fully extended (move your seat closer to the pedals). You might be inadvertently relaxing yourself too much while driving. Locking your knees when they're extended can also cause you to pass out. Loud music can help too.

Thus far, PS3 has been prevalent for our east coast events. It's a mix around the rest of the country (and world). We are working on shifting to 360 though for a few reasons. Helps to have both controllers ready.

As long as there are no programmable buttons you should be fine.

The ranked match issue isn't the netcode, it's something up behind the scenes with matchmaking. In any case, I've yet to really experience much in the way of lag. I did have one notable exception where I had a fight that, every few seconds, would basically go in stop motion, start normally...
