I think that they wanted just to use a common basis for all the pack rather than making random recolours. I like Rachel's recolour and it gave the same feelings even to me, glad to see that I'm not the only one =)

By the way remember that Kokoro was introduced with that outfit in the DoA4 trailer: even the intention of Itagaki was to make of it her original outfit (so to give more place to her geisha background than to her fighter's one - even if i consider her kimono a sort of fighting gear for Kokoro)...

I don't know, both Kokoro and Nyotengu want be in someway representative of the old traditions/folklore of the Japan (not the shinobi because they are treated as a world apart in the series), and their C1 is something that want indicated just this: in the game there are other kimono - or similar...
