I get that.... what I don't get is how the Arkham Series broke that trend and there's been absolutely no attempt to copy them. Where's Spider Man's Arkham Series ?
@Darkslay
To be fair... what is or isn't scary is very specific to each individual and its why Horror games are judged by how much Tension they it can produce instead, since thats a concept thats affects everyone more or less the same. Doesn't really matter which game is scarier. Its all about...
@Force_of_Nature
Well thats what made me write this status in the first place.
The Atmosphere, Pacing amd the rate at which President Evil 4 throws Enemies and Guns at you is identical to President Evil 5. I was actually playing it Last Night. Its kinda hard to feel any Tension if that...
Its what makes President Evil 5 feel better. Chris & Sheva have enough health, don't have shaky hands and have plenty of storage. The only annoyance you have to deal with is the guns.
In Mecenaries Mode you don't have to bother with any of that junk at all... everything is perfectly balanced...
Its really just semantics....
Upgrading and Leveling are essentially the same thing, the point is you are given a weak and useless character and the designers insist that you balance the game's mechanics rather than they do it them selves. Its annoying.
@Crazy_Chin_Guy
Thats exactly the point I'm trying to make. What does Upgrading my Storage Capacity and Health add to the Experience ?
Nothing... its just Busy work. Pretty Lazy coming from The So Called Godfather Of Survival Horror.
President Evil 4 also some how has worse RPG Elements than 5 did. Which is very strange to me. Normally the trend goes the other way around. Its usually the newer games trying to cram leveling systems into every orifice of gameplay but It's nice to see 5 not fall into that Trap.
@Crazy_Chin_Guy
Sorry bro.... I'm just calling it like I see it.
The similarities between 4 & 5 are so striking that it makes me think the hate had more to do with Shinji Mikami leaving than it does anything else.
President Evil 6 is harder to place. Individually all its mechanics (except the Inventory System) are big improvements but for whatever reason, the game as a whole just doesn't feel like its better than its Predecessors.
Actually President Evil 5 has a wider Colour Palette and more varied Environments. President Evil 4 is the one thats always Brown Everywhere all the Time, its an old game and it shows it.
