The system recognizes the HDD just fine. Is it possible it's still faulty despite that? & Hmm. I didn't check to make sure it was the right version number which I should have. I just went into the settings and did the system update after DOAU wouldn't play.

@KasumiLover69 It has a small 20GB hard drive in it which I'm guessing is the default official microsoft one that came with the system. I'll have to open the HDD thing to check but according to what I've read it should be all I need @Dbomb Maybe, google has been no help
