Paid stages could get messy online though. If I pay $5 for a stage I don't want it to be thrown out of the possible selectable stages online just b/c player X didn't buy it. On the flip side, if they could play on it then I don't think it's fair that I had to pay for it and they get to use it...

Fair enough but we're rating characters based on how much we enjoy using them in the game. You can like and respect everyone in this game and still not care for a certain fighting style.
