    They were universal to the cast in all versions of DOA1, but made unique in DOA2 and DOA3. You keep making a mistake in terminology. You keep calling Free Step attacks as "sidestep attacks" in DOA5. DOA5's side step attacks are different from how the free step attacks function.

    It functions in the way that it measures P+P+K. Also the input display system isn't the same system as the input recognition system. The input display doesn't show any buttons that are already being held at time of update. The display only shows when a button state is changed from NOT PRESSED...

    Yeah, I'm wondering if it's the same thing as what's in DOA5 where you are cancelling moves on accident. Where you input something and the system gets confused like an option select. Probably happening moreso online due to packet loss but your game says 0% packet loss.

    Probably because unlilke the S button, the 3 "Way" Hold actually changes how the game is played. Personally 3 way or 4 way doesn't matter to me on its own, but my preference is dependent on the system it inhabits. For some examples, in DOA6 the 1 Way Break Hold doesn't offend or worry me...

    Even in DOA4, everyone had an attack, throw, and hold, but not everyone had an Attack that also Holds (Sabaki) even though everyone had a Throw that also Holds (OH). In DOA5, not everyone had a sabaki, and not everyone had an offensive hold. To me that's fair.
