A Discussion of sexualised design of male/female characters

In most cases, I understand why they never say anything about male fanservice, because showing off stomach and chest isn't considered as sexualized as when a female does it, or worse. That Final fantasy Mobius thing that Russian-Chiropractic posted a long while ago is typically how far it has to go before they start complaining, and even then it mostly comes from male fans who feel uncomfortable or demasculinized playing a male character who shows that much skin, even though they have no qualms and find it acceptable playing as shirtless males to begin with.

nobody was actually complaining about Gunvolt's belly. it was an internal decision they decided to go with because they thought such a feminine attribute would repel certain types of western customers and that is technically correct. however, in reality if you're playing that "anime as fuck game" you would most likely be used to or even enjoy the anime stereotypes including the designs of the characters.

Tri-Ace needs to start working on another Valkyrie Profile in similar to VP2: Silmeria. Though I will likely buy SO5 as well, I just hope it's much better than SO4. SO4's character dialogue is cringeful and story is slightly straight forward with limited post-game bonus dungeon content for cameo. SO3 on the other hand, was possibly the best one of them all.

Oh I know what you're talking about, it's the classic "Americans hate Tingle" trope, where a lot of the western market(mostly men and a few women) will shun and be repelled off by any male character that shows even the slightest amount of femininity or softness, case in point Emil from Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the New World. I really wish the US wasn't like this, because we don't get any variety with character design, and then they have to make all these unnecessary changes just to please a group who doesn't like designs that flamboyant or different. That's why Ash Crimson from KOF was strongly disliked in the west too:

Great character design if you ask me, or maybe just because he reminds me of Lili :p

I mean, I'm pretty sure Emil's poor reception was due to quite a bit more than femininity.
Courage is the magic that turns dreams into reality.
Besides, far as I know, Jude was received a lot better despite having similar characterization, and in terms of appearance, you have generally loved characters like Yuri, Duke or Dhaos, who are often mistaken as being female by those unfamiliar with the series.

Ash would've been fine if it weren't for the 50's showgirl hair bun. That's what makes him cross over from feminine man to "no way that's not a woman". Without that he'd just be kinda androgynous. With it he's completely unbelievable as a man.

Seriously someone Photoshop the bun out of that picture.

pretty sure everyone just hates Ash's hair which honestly just looks bad man or women. the painted nails, long hair, feminine walk, etc... is something westerners who play japanase games got used to a LONG time ago.

Exactly

What's with the controversy about Tracer's ass? I mean its not even a very good looking ass yet people are throwing a bitch about it. Just another day of bored talentless people finding something to bitch about.

EDIT: the sad thing is that overwatch kinda looks cool from an art style perspective but I cant help but to think that this controversy is some inside shit.

It has definition and the curve is visible which may captivate some, but she doesn't have the actual butt size to back it up. It looks somewhat flat

Wait.

Is the controversy because of the spandex wedgie or because of the lack of badonkadonk on a gymnast?

Either way its stupid

Oh sorry, i read your response wrong. I thought that by you saying "What's wrong with her ass?" that you felt confused and you thought she had a good ass, so I just was agreeing with Goarmagon that it wasn't a very good looking butt.

@Goarmagon should have really specified a bit more what that controversy actually is regarding Tracer's ass. XD Now people in here are all speculating what the hell it could be.

I love Overwatch's art style by the way. Would totally buy the upcoming PS4 version of the game if it wasn't focused on multiplayer only.

It's really dumb how SJWs/Feminist extremists take the time to whine and moan about the tiniest things... Who even cares? They honestly make feminists look bad

Feminists as a whole tend to make it seem like everything offends them. I get the whole sexualiazation and body image issue an' all that, but have they ever stopped to think that maybe women want to dress a certain way? Videogame or not, you have to assume what a women wears in a game is what she wanted to wear and is willing to wear, that's why certain females in games are more scantily dressed than other, because they don't mind showing off that much skin. Feminism is all about choice.

Based on the guys wording I don't think that's the case at all.

His words mirror how I feel about the Ninja Gaiden girls appearing in DOAX where you have this cool female character that you don't want degraded or to appear less cool.

However where as DOAX is literally "fanservice the game" and contains no possibility to make the girls look cooler this single pose is all that really sexualised her and even that intention is debatable based on 1) how it's optional across all genders and 2) how much Blizzard wants nothing to with that anymore especially in this which is probably the most kid friendly game they've ever made.

In the end her costume fits thematically and character wise. Yeah fit people in tight superhero spandex are going to show their asses. That's just something that comes with the deseign.

They are crying about her showing off that pathetic ass of hers and accusing her of being nothing more than being a "sex symbol". I'm not going to lie i am growing tired of this retarded shit.

Wait that pose is just a generic pose for all characters?

Oh okay so its spider-woman all over.

For those of you who don't know, they tried to decry a spider-woman cover for sexually objectifying women

latest

The argument fell apart when they claimed artists would never do the same to a male character.

Cue hysterical laughter from all

Also Nightwing comes to mind, he's always been obviously objectified in official comics/other media:

In the Arkham Knight game one of the villains even makes a snide remark of him always squeazing his butt in the most skintight suits. XD

Funny enough, DOAX3 really isn't even the WORST thing you can do to pretend someone is becoming "degraded".

I mean they will NOT accept Fortune(which is THE fetish swimsuit) unless they are at maximum with you. They still have their personalities in tow and never seem made to be toys or objects to be acted upon(thanks Anita...) and basically, they are just taking a vacation.

I mean there is far worse ecchi games than DOAX3 out there, people just love blowing a gasket over the series...because it's the most obvious one there.
