Anti Jann Lee strategies

In DOA4 Jann Lee just lacked a little bit of improvement to be a top tier character. Well now in DOA5 he's got all of them and a lot of guaranteed follow up situation.

I'm now sick and tired of people abusing his good moves. Are there any solid strategies against Jann Lee, apart from countering mid punch? (That does not work in a lot of situations, 66F+P is fearful now so you cannot counter a lot and you can't simply just grab that stupid OH is impractical, and also he's got other solid poke moves so he can start attacking without just throwing mid punch while his mid punches are really good)...

When Jann Lee gets inside your killzone and your back happens to be to a wall, its probably a good idea to put yourself in a high crush state. If you happen to be playing someone with a crouching sidestep move like Bayman or Hayate, use tank roll to get out of that situation.

If he can't get off his dragon gunner he is going to have to try much riskier nonsense.

It's not easy to avoid dragon gunner. You can either:
1. low counter
2. throw
3. try to crush

The first 2 are very risky so they can't be relied upon very much. The 3rd option can also be dangerous escpecially when your back is near wall. Now his 6P has so many variations so this can be annoying too.

Jan Lee is pretty fast i used to play with him a lot in DOA4. The best way to fight Jan Lee in my opinion is to keep your distance and try to hit him with long range attacks to close in on him and then do some short combos and get back at a distance right after it and keep doing this the whole time. Best characters to pick against him in my opinion is Hayate(because of his fast 6P). Hope this helped you out a little :).

I hate fighting him, i can never tell if he's mid or high punching. His attacks hit you far, so when you block you cant throw punish.

It's all a matter of practice if you play long enough against JL you will be able to recognize all hes moves and know exactly when to punish so my advice: Go with him to practice mode and study hes moves and once you think you have a pretty good idea what hes moves are then find some one who is good with him and try to read hes moves and counter/punish etc.

it doesnt matter if he hits you with anything that isnt dragon gunner. you can risk getting out of the stun game or you can lose half lifebar guaranteed. your call.

The thing is Jann Lee's got very good stun builders comparing to a lot characters: High to mid and mid mid etc. It won't take long for him to CB you if you guess wrong a couple of times.

Bayman is now a good character too. Maybe he can be as good as Jann Lee

What is high crushing, and how do you crush in general?
A Crush is an evasive move that can allow you to beat out another move at certain height levels. True mids also come into play in this.

High Crush - (Tech Crouch) An evasive that beats out moves that hit high like neutral :P: or Neutral :K:, like a sweep kick. Generally 2F+K is a sweep kick or low kick in general that will crush for a few characters(ex. Hayate, Ryu, Jann, Eliot, Kasumi(I think), and more). Other examples are:
Hayate
:6::P+K:
:8::P:
:1::K:
Etc.

Low Crush - (Tech Jump) An evasive move that beats out lows, like sweep kicks, or generic :2::P:'s, like a flipping move, that takes your character off of the ground completely, enough to where no low will hit you.
Here's another example:
Hayate(Again)
:214::K:
:214::P:
:3::F+K:
:7::P+K:

True Mid - I think I'm generally correct on this one, but a true mid is a move that will beat out a High and/or low crush. Generally the moves are vertical.
Hayate
:3::F+K:
:3::3::K::K::
:7::K: (Might miss low, but also crushes low)

I have played online with a Xbox friend using JANN LEE while I was fighting as Ayane.
One combo: 66T, 6H+K. The correct input should be 66T, 66H+K because a forward dash is needed to connect.
However, I predicted the high-holds and I never successfully countered. Then I go back to training and set CPU Ayane with high-hold responses. Guess what. 66T, 66H+K never gets countered.

I am a DOA veteran but still new with DOA5. Counters were never this strict and demanding and I most certainly don't remember a uncounterable guaranteed-hit with opponent standing and facing you.

Does DOA5 actually have guaranteed un-counterables?

DoA 2 and 3 had unholdable followups from dragon gunner...

Mash low hold, use your best crushes, just know that you're fighting a losing battle if he's up close or mid distance. Unless he's fighting a faster character than him.

Characters that can give him trouble are Helena and Brad, being in stance all the time cuts off dragon gunner and 66k nonsense. Helena just needs one knockdown and she can push his shit in and brad can take advantage of Jann's linear high/mid offense with his laydown stance. Christie and Kasumi are the few characters that hare faster than him and force him to back down pressure wise. Christie's JK stance evades his 66k and DG as well.
