Circling At Match Start

I've seen countless people start off the match by circling my character before the FIGHT! command is given.

I can't seem to do this with my character, Akira. Is he just SOL when it comes to circling or am I just doing it wrong?

Akira has a very slow side walk unlike most of the other characters which makes it impossible for Akira to circle his opponent. People might want to circle you in order to mess up your directional inputs in order to get the first hit but if you play Akira you are not able to do this. However you can use your opponent's circling motion to circle him/her by trying to walk in the opposite direction as your opponent.

Oh man, people do this to me once in a while and it drives me bonkers. Whatever move I'm attempting to input, comes out incorrectly a significant amount of the time.

I started simply doing 2P against it since it's omnidirectional.
I'd like to hear what more expert players think is a good work around.

Depending on how quickly you do it there is a way to swap positions without resetting the camera, essentially resulting in a kind of psuedo-crossup with your opponents controls... which obviously would mess with someone at GRF.

It can screw with people.

If I'm close to a dangerzone on my side, I'm gonna move around.

If I know my opponent's too slow or he/she is gonna stand there, I'm gonna move around.

If I have an opportunity to see dat ass of Christie's, I'm gonna move around. (open stance ftdgw unless I get limboed)

If my analog stick calibration's screwed up by unknown causes, I'm gonna move around, but not of my own will.

Just walk in the same direction as the other guy, it'll keep you both face to face.

Unless he sees you doing that and walks the other way right before it says "FIGHT" and screws you up. If you want to avoid the circle game best thing would be to just back away. That way your opponent will not be able to circle you since circling is only possible if you stand really close to each other.

being able to move around before the match just adds to the randomness DOA is known for. games like tekken and vf keep u at an even distance before the fight and allows you the choice to back dash and space to avoid any potential offense at the start of a match. DOA u back dash?... who gives a shit the opponent can continue to follow u and stay in your face forcing you to guess. its even worse if you use slow ass characters like bass who has no choice but to go on defense everytime at the start of a round since his offense will get beatin out by damn near everything

It will still be too slow, unless you have a slow reaction or are playing online with heavy lag, it wouldn't effect much.

I use Akira, circling isn't going to happen so I just stand there. But if the opponent tries to do it to me I'm going to move in the opposite direction. You're not going to get me with that bullcrap.
