I would love it if Ryo Hazuki would make it to the game. But it doesn't make sense at all; Ryo will have to be properly aged (Shenmue is based in the 80's), he will have to have developed more of his other chinese martial arts along his journey, and he would have a different personality because that's what's expected in the Shenmue story. Ryo is a character that's in his infancy in development. We only saw up until Shenmue 2; while Yu Suzuki has written the story up to 11 chapters so far. As a Shenmue fan, I think you need to at least have to consider these things if you want the Hazuki fans to cheer for a cameo. Otherwise, he wouldn't be interesting to the fans (IMO) and he wouldn't be interesting to non-fans in the first place.

I really hate reading this crap... They are just guest characters, why do they need to "make sense" ?
Did link make sense in SC2?
Did spawn make sense in SC2?
Did Heihachi make sense in SC2?
Did Kratos make sense in SC:BD?
Did the Star Wars characters make sense in SC4?
Did Kratos make sense in MK9?
Did Spartan make sense in DoA4?
Seriously...Why does it matter? It's like people thinking Leon and Ein need to be part of the story somehow to be in the game.

It's not that it's crap, it's that guest characters aren't meant to make sense within a different games universe. They are there to say, "Hey, I'm so-and-so! You know me from so-and-so!" the end. If I see Kasumi in Mortal Kombat or Soul Calibur, I won't care that she doesn't make sense and wonder why she's there, I'll be like, "YAY! Kasumi is playable!". I highly doubt fans would care if Ryo didn't have all that story attached to him as a GUEST of someone else's game, I'd be willing to bet they'd be happy just knowing their character is even special enough to guest star in ANY game.

I understand where you're coming from Goro, but I think your fandom of the series might have something to do with it. The first Shenmue took place in 1986, so Ryo would have been born around 1968 (since he's 18 at the start of the series). So...he would be about 44 today.
Akira from VF was also born in 1968, and personally, I think his face is a little too smooth to be in his forties (his DOA5 design looks early thirties-ish, imo). Sarah's born in 1973, so that puts her at the ripe ol' age of 39...and this face definitely ain't pushing forty. Heck, she could be my age -- someone born twenty years later. ^^;

I hear ya. They shouldn't be thinking about guest characters when some of their own characters haven't even made it in yet.
I saw the "I'm a Fighter" look-a-like photo, but I didn't know that she knows karate. So if she did somehow make it in, we'd have two karate practitioners named Hitomi. Nice. Also, I hadn't seen the Power Ranger thing you were talking about, so I had to look it up. Not sure what that was all about, ha ha.
Koei is too cheap to allow any free content to get out there so don't count on seeing any characters.
He already has a moveset:

I don't expect free characters either. Honestly, I don't really expect any DLC to be free, but especially not characters.
