It's not so much a specific type he has to be, just that that being the character we ended up getting sucked was where I was going.

Because I don't like him, for obvious reasons. He has a decent fighting style and some good tools, but I hate the character. So why would I use him? Does that mean I shouldn't think we should have another black character that doesn't wear alien suits, have green hair and fire beams out of his eyes just for the sake of being different?

Look if you like Zack that's awesome, it's cool his craziness appeals to some people. But it doesn't appeal to me and I'd like a more regular character that doesn't wear clown suits and fire beams out of his eyes.

I am inclined to agree I had much less of an issue with him in older games. He was silly but much more respectable. In 4 he started getting weirder but 5 was the icing on the cake. Zack is fodder and the game consistently lets you know that as he loses to every single character he fights and is laying on the floor in some nonsensical position. Yet people get up in arms against me when I simply ask for a black character that's.... not him? I guess there's just nothing else to talk about at the moment.

Honestly, in terms of characterization, I just totally disregard DoA5, because it completely derails almost every character. Lei Fang is no longer a snooty bitch trying to beat Jann Lee to prove she didn't need his help, now she's freakin Amy Rose. Hitomi was a serious karate practitioner, now she's Lei Fang's really silly airheaded sidekick. Zack was eccentric, but still dead serious and dangerous in a fight, and always playing the hero, now he's a loser in every way, out of nowhere.

It's like Christie being derailed from "Classy but sexy assassin" in DoA3, but turned to "megaslut" in DoA4 and DoA5. But that kind of change applied to the whole cast.

Exactly. Zeo just wants to hate just to hate.

Brad Wong lost some respectability to I think. I remember him having more of a "Wiseman" persona in DOA3. Laid back but fairly serious, more like a master. Then he just went full on drunkard in 4.

Sometimes I wonder if you say things just to say things. I completely agree with Argentus. I said I respected the character despite his quirks because they appeal to some people and that at his core we was a decent fighter and not a complete joke but a source of comic relief. But I lost that respect in DOA5. Wearing clown suits and losing to half the cast without any of them breaking a sweat makes you fodder. If you can't see that, you must be blind.

You don't have to agree with me, but if I was hating for the sake of hating. I could have saved myself the trouble of writing out detailed paragraphs and just said Zack was trash and that we should have a black character that's not.

With Brad Wong, my issue is that he had this huge revelation and gave up drinking in DOA3....only to turn to drugs in Doa4? The fuck?! Then in DoA5 he just doesn't seem to give a fuck about ANYTHING, only hanging around to annoy Elliot out of lack of anything better to do.

Well, Lisa started off in the volleyball game, so her being a luchadora is out of nowhere, as well.

Here's the issue. You are defining Zack by him being black. The rest of us are wondering "Why?"

We have male fighters who are still serious, and a male fighter who is quirky. Changing skin tones doesn't make any difference there, UNLESS You are trying to make some kind of "stereotypical black guy", which is where all the disagreement is coming from.

It vaguely reminds me of this

(I love how Cage isn't even taking offense to be titled "Black-Man" lol)

But everyone changed so you can't just pick Zack out of the bunch. And to the comment about Zack's seriousness as a character, the alien suit is just a costume so you can't go off of that. In story mode he actually serves a serious purpose this time around instead of JUST being the "funny guy"...
You are stereotyping, go home.

Argentus Avoid double (and triple, in this case) posting. You can edit your posts. Additionally, you can quote multiple posts in one reply by just hitting quote on each post in turn. Not sure if you knew already so I'll just let you know this way.

Too hostile, Blaze, ease up on the "go home" comments.

It's not really something to be offended by, it just annoys me.

I don't take offense to him, I'd be more offended if he was a stereotypical black character, but a stereotypical black character isn't a "regular" character. He's defined by being "Black" which in and of itself is offensive, he's the token black character so he needs to act black because he's black. That is more irritating than anything.

Zack being a joke isn't an issue, him being black isn't an issue. Him being the only black character isn't really an issue either, I personally just dislike that the character he ended up being was who we got for our black character. It beats the stereotype but not by much. All I said was that I wanted another black character that wasn't stereotypical or a joke. I wasn't hating on Zack and then everyone started getting all touchy and jumped down my throat.

We have a lot of busty blondes and asians which is why some didn't want Rachel or Aoi. I thought another black character with a regular personality and appearance would be a good way to further add diversity because we only have one of them and he's a clown.

But everyone changed so you can't just pick Zack out of the bunch. And to the comment about Zack's seriousness as a character, the alien suit is just a costume so you can't go off of that. In story mode he actually serves a serious purpose this time around instead of JUST being the "funny guy"...

A lot of the characters did change for the worse. Lei-Fang, Hitomi, Brad, etc. But the only character that effectively became fodder was Zack. His costumes only added to his quirky personality, I used them as points against him being serious.

I never said anything about Zack in particular initially. I just said I wanted a serious black character, that's when you assumed I'd be stereotyping because any black character that doesn't act like a Japanese anime character obviously must be a stereotype.

Oh and as far as story goes. He was just as relevant in DOA1 when he won the tourney, or in DOA4 when he scaled a 3000 foot building and saved Helena from a firey demise. And he did that without getting beat up by female wrestlers and drunk guys on the street.

You can cry stereotype all day but eventually you'll have to accept that I wasn't doing it. You keep telling me to go home, yet it was you who came into my house. gg

Okay, im sorry, but I can't just have Zack being disrespected like that. If anything Zack lights up the mood of the serious tone of the game, how can you not like a guy like that...

Side note on zack. Anyone else prefer his old face, where cheekbones weren't so pronounced, and he didn't always have a big shiteating grin?

God...I think back to his really cool outfits (Raver dreads, DJ outfit, since he's yaknow, a DJ, classic muay thai getup, etc), then think to the crap he's stuck with this, and its just sad.

There's your issue. I never disrespected Zack. I simply said I didn't like him and wanted a serious character. I didn't say Zack should get removed from the roster. He serves his purpose as comic relief and that aspect of his character I never had a problem with.

Yeah I mean not that there was ever a strong story in DOA to begin with (although in Dimensions they at least attempted to string everything together and did a decent job) but in 5 it was one colossal shit show. I think more people (including myself) would actually pay attention to the story more if they actually TRIED.

By the way Team Ninja quit making Eliot, Brad Wong's bitch. He's 18 years old he shouldn't be living and cooking dinner for some 30 y/o drunk ass perverted mothaflacka.

Don't know why you guys are jumping on Zeo, Zack IS a joke character. that doesn't mean he isn't viable or people shouldn't like him its just that the fact that he is the sole representative of the black male fighter on the roster is annoying to some people and want another black fighter that they can actually take seriously.

just look at these four niggas below...

Was was downright badass in all the previous games, but with like one goofy costume (alien). But inDOA5, they removed ALL The badass to turn him into fuckin Urkel.

So the solution is NOT to add another black guy. Its to give him all his badass outfits back. And PREFERABLY, give him his old face back (New DOA5 zack face is too bony, and grins constantly, which takes away from his badass status)

Yeah I mean not that there was ever a strong story in DOA to begin with (although in Dimensions they at least attempted to string everything together and did a decent job) but in 5 it was one colossal shit show.

Oh please, Eliot's destined to be somebody's bitch, may as well be Mr. Wong's.
