There was a new scan released in Famitsu magazine for Dead or Alive: Dimensions. My friend has provided translations for it now. I don't expect much information in this article however, as typically the Japanese game magazines are just fluff.

As expected, the article is mainly fluff.
  • It talks about how the cherry blossoms in Kyoto in Bloom look great and that the atmosphere of the game is nice, specifically tagging Raidou's level as "ooooh spoooky".
  • The game is a fighting game.
  • The Kyoto in Bloom stage has environmental effects / danger zones. (Basically it's unchanged from DOA4)
  • No mention of anything gameplay related outside of it being a fighting game.

Likeing Raidou's inclusion in this game. Though with a name like Dimensions, I get the feeling that this is some sort of fanservice game. Either way though I'm getting it. Wonder what's up with those hit sparks though...

Agreed. I too believe this is some sort of fanservice and not a true sequel. Like Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Swords, I'm sure this is some sort of possible prequel to DOA1. Aside from Raidou's return, Hayate is still his ninja self. Or I could be wrong and this is some sort of 'The Best Of...' DOA game that features all the characters plus the most popular stages. *rolleyes*

This is actually looking really good so far. Although, there are only ninjas and no one else yet. I'm hoping to get more information about this game at TGS

Imo the gameplay is very important in telling us what direction they are going. If the gameplay is solid with a good mix of Doa3.1 offense with doa4 defense, we may be seeing the perfect Doa game.

Until we see an actual gameplay video it's anyones guess at this point. Not much we can get from stills other than the inclusion of impact flashes of some kind. I'd hope we'd see something this week but it seems Nintendo isn't going to showcase the 3DS at TGS for some strange reason.

Just an fyi, DOA4 has impact clashes as well. They depended on Normal, Counter, or Hi-Counter hits.

HAYASHI ON DEAD OR ALIVE:

The first is Dead or Alive Dimensions, a DOA title for the Nintendo 3DS, which will allow players to play through the entirety of the Dead or Alive story from volumes 1 through 4, all in "gorgeous 3D."

Hayashi noted that it has been five years since DOA 4, and that this title would be the one to bring lapsed 3D fighting gamers back to the genre, if all goes well.

Source.

Wow. Just wow. Did not expect this at all. Essentially all the DOA's in one. Though I wonder how it'll work. Like, the story mode. I wonder, say, you play as Kasumi and you go through, without stopping, playing from DOA1 to DOA4. Or if the games are individual, I wonder if DOA3 will be DOA3.1. Also, DOA1 will be considered a remake, sort of.

As for the second little note, I disagree. You can't bring people back to a genre using a handheld. Not even the 3D gimmick is going to help. While Dimensions sounds awesome, a proper DOA5 is much more needed. And like, WTF is Hayashi even talking about? Bringing people back to the genre? I can see this with Capcom popping out 2D fighters like a teenage whore, but that's Capcom. They're a bigger company and their fighters are 2D dominate. Noone left the 3D genre, we're just lacking the number of 3D fighters to Capcom's 2D fighters. Tekken 6 hit consoles last fall, Tekken 7 (and even Tekken X Street Fighter) is already in the works and VF5: Final Showdown is rumored to hit consoles too. Where you been Hayashi? What you need to bring people back to is the DOA series itself. And it's going to take more than just loads of sex appeal and skimppy outfits to do it.

This would have worked better on consoles. I am sure we as fans would have been extatic to have this on consoles ala a doa2u. The real fans of Doa are not looking at the DS and it seems that Team ninja at its current state are not thinking about us and are thinking about those people who have yet to get into doa. Also, this dumb ass talks about Doa not being around for 5 years and this will bring gamers back to the Genre...wtf. He is more deluded than Itagaki could ever be. No one wants a fucking DS game. We have waited 5 years for Doa5 for console. This shit will flop and bite him in the ass. Everything that he have done so far as team leader has flopped. NG sigma flopped, sigma 2 flopped, DoaP flopped, and this new shit will flop.
