Me, Sorwah, and VP talked to him for a little while and we brought up a lot of things and mostly with emphasis on pressure/advantage and doa4 lacking tools and having tools that are useless. We brought up the BT and how ppl can turn around in 2 frames making tools like Lei Fangs parry pointless to use. Unfortunately we didn't get much time to talk, but Shimbori-san came to us wanting to know why we were playing doa3 and why we liked it more, and he seemed very interested in what we had to say and seemed to understand the things we mentioned. He even played Sorwah and VP in doa3.1, and entered the tournament in doa4 as well and faced off against Sorwah lol. He used Tengu =P

We also asked him the next day about X05. We didn't have a translator then, but his response boiled down to Japan didn't like doa3 and the changes made after x05 were targeted to the core Japanese market, and some of it had to do with that Itagaki liked fast paced games, and part of it was the VF testers.

Thats the short version, I'm too tired to remember everything right now, but I'm sure Sorwah will post more later.

Oh yea.

DoA4
1st - Allan Parris
2nd - Sweet Revenge (Inception)
3rd - Swoozie

Master got taken out by AP, and then by Awesmic for those that were curious.

DoAD
1st - Master
2nd - Rikuto
3rd - Raansu (yay me! lol)

I had a good time, despite the bad luck in doa4 lol. My second match was against Master, then I had to face Rikuto in the losers bracket lol. Didn't help that when I heard Raansu vs Master on the mic I just went "fuck..." lol. I was pretty much just pressing buttons and had no thought process at all =( I mind fucked myself haha, and of course Rikuto always kicks my ass online, so when I had to fight him I went "fuck..." lol. Either way, I redeemed myself in doad! lol >_> It was fun. And TN was awesome, got a signed Ayane figurine by Hayashi-san XD.

Interesting - the X05 changes and the response to having the game tested by VF players is something that has been tricky to see what kind of influence it had on development.

I am a strong believer that DOA can still learn a lot from VF while maintaining its core differences, but they need to analyse differences over a longer period of time, it sounds like between X05 and launch they rushed the changes through without fully examining them against the rest of the system.

I hope that considerations like these can be taken into the game much earlier in the development cycle with DOA5.

Sounds like everyone had an awesome time and its pleasing to hear Team Ninja were so actively interested.

IN B4 Rikuto says "That was NO mixup!"

I wasn't the only one who got screwed over.

I believe it was legitimately the fault of one of the other NVGA people however, simply due to the sheer number of people being screwed off the bracket.

Didn't help my second match put me up against SR though, but at least i "caught" the error in time so that I could even get back onto the bracket.

Call that some magical intuition.

Yeah, congrats to everyone, especially Allan.

Rikuto, I wasn't even aware that you had DOAD or were playing that at DID. Imagine my shock when I read that you got second, haha.

I have the game now because I won signed a copy of it.

I don't however have a system to play it on, and my experience with the game prior to the tournament was limited to playing on Cyberevil's 3ds for like 45 minutes a week before hand.

Only really had time to look at a few move differences.

The dpad fucking sucks.

oh also, got 7th for MK9.

I've only played that game for like a week lol.

Nice one! You don't have to change tactics much for DOAD - it just feels like the game is tightened up a bit, on a lesser control system.

Does anyone have the rundown of characters used as well as the players?

My tactics involved less parries, thats for sure... diagonals just dont work for me on that pad...

on the other hand, baymans pp6k is +9, so run away.

That character is not trash in DOAD.

-To be blunt, there is very little Doa can learn from VF(gameplay wise). In fact, ever since Doa2, VF have been influenced heavily by Doa. From Vf4-Vf5, every iteration have become more and more like Doa. Team Ninja took Doa to its highest plateau with Doa3.1. What they need to do is understand what made Doa3.1 work and build a future Doa upon that model.
