EVO 2013: DoA5 has a shot! But there's a catch...

evo.jpg

So the EVO 2013 lineup was announced just moments ago on Wakeup SRK, and it's the largest EVO roster in years. Dead or Alive 5, unfortunately, is not on the main roster. This is due in no small part to a lack of consistent offline support in comparison to other games. We've been on the upswing, especially after the solid showing at NEC, however we have a lot of building to do yet. This is something that we're still working hard on changing, but this is currently our reality.

Now, the title says we still have a shot, and we do, but that catch is really going to put us in a put up or shut up position like never before! The Player's Choice slot, EVO 2013's eighth title, goes to the community and game that donates the most money to a chosen charity. The other part was that the game had to receive more than 500 votes in the poll that ran on the EVO Facebook page, which we did pull off. As of this writing, the donation page (link at the top) states we have 21 days to donate as much as we can, or til the end of January.

This is a chance for the entire DoA community to back our game. Online players, offline players, stream monsters, EVERYONE has an equal opportunity to help out the community. If you can't travel, toss a few bucks at the donation. If you prefer online play for any reason, donate anyway. If you do travel, definitely donate. Everyone should be donating as much as they can so that we can get our game back on the EVO main stage. Even if that doesn't happen, your money still goes to charity.

So DoA community: FSD members and DoAWorld members, online and offline players, casuals and pros...the time to step up or stay off to the side is coming!

DOA5 may not have the opportunity to win but at least we have IPL and other tourney evens, that's something to be grateful for, right?

Yeah. Its just right now it comes down to pride. Even if we do not make it to EVO the DOA community needs to put the FGC on notice. We need to let them know we will support our game.I was listening to a podcast on youtube last night and I am tired of well known members in the FGC not considering DOA to be a fighting game. Or feel our game is for people who don't play fighting games seriously.

Granted the people who are on the Podcast I listened to(Gooteks, HonzoGonzo, Fubarduck, and some other guys) are mostly 2D fighting game players mouthing off bullshit half the time. If we can get DOA to come in at least second I will be happy with that.If we can beat MLP and Skullgirls that would be great.

DoA5 will be at Evo one way or another. Just might be only in my hotel room or as a side tournament. I'll be there either way. I haven't lost any faith in DoA or this community as a result of what's going on with other games. I am more than a little shocked at how much money Smash has now, though. I really hope Evo decides they don't have enough time to run it on the main stage...

i have a feeling even with IPL and other tournaments no 1 will show up lol, we really need to get people out to tournaments

We as a community need to get people to just like the game.
We need to eliminate the "Us and Them" BS that plagues our community. We need our top players to be more welcoming and stop shitting on the community we do have.
We need to get other high level FGC pros to play our game.
We need to support one another by giving newcomers who win tournaments a community spotlight.
We need to stop putting down our own game. If you like it for the game play fine.If you like it for the T & A then that's fine too.Just have some frickin pride about it.

Its not that hard people.

I have a friend who is a Tekken fan but really enjoys DOA and another friend
who is a big fan of Halo & Uncharted but also a fan of DOA. I'm going to get them involved in this community so they can travel for touneys to support DOA5. Now, if only fighting games grab my older brother's interest it would be magnificent & crazy exciting but that will NEVER happen because the only games he plays and take seriously is Madden, NBA 2k and wait for it, wait for it...drum roll please!...Call of Duty :(

DOA not a fighting game?! They obviously don't know what they're talking about (Shake my head).

While I have my issues with DoA's "progress" over DoA4 and 5, I have even more issue with people like that. Every single "big name" in the FGC that has waltzed in on DoA thinking its free money has had their ass handed to them. Yes, the game has problems, the core design is somewhat flawed, but in the end you cant just walk in and win. It still takes some method of talent and practice to be good at the game.

Or ... Team Ninja could've made improving the netcode a priority instead of ripoff DLC.

There were plenty of newcomers to the series who bought DoA5 to try it out but then dropped it later because they have no one to play with or due to lag.

If TN fixed it from day one a lot of those players would still be here.

The netcode does suck.I agree with you on that. But I've been playing DOA before it went online. KOF 13 online play sucks yet that games community get some degree of respect. A newcomer is someone that doesn't just try a game. A newcomer is basically someone who sticks around and actually makes a name for themselves with in the games community. Whether being an online warrior, offline noob, or a trash talking scrub.Even though they are relatively new they actually get involved within the community.

So the netcode is not really the problem with the community as a whole.

the reason why people quit this game is because its not made for retards.

you can go on tekken tag 2 at any time of the day, 12pm, 7am, 4am and find a kid in ranked match.

these kids play like the biggest baboons on earth and can win because tekken rewards you for doing retarded things.

yeah sure at a pro level you have to think of what moves youre going to do. but on a normal level the games for BABOONS and comes down to character tier lists. which character has the fastest moves, best launchers, its pure SHIT.

i cant believe some kids on here actually complain about there being so many "unsafe moves". what the hell is wrong with you. they took like 50% of the unsafe moves from doa4 and made them safe which is already too many.

tekken is so safe which is why r-e-t-a-r-d-s play it, they have no clue what the fuck theyre doing, they just attack attack attack and because theres no counter system to punish them for attack attack attack.

yeah yeah, and then some kids will say how easy it is to punish these retards. yeah its probably SO fuckin easy when youre using a high tier character like law, the tigers, and whatever other uncreative characters they have.

why dont you try using my shitty characters and see how easy it is, try using marduk and the bear, filled with shitty moves kid.

so i clicked on the "Live Help" chatbox on the Wepay site and asked a question. i thought it was pretty funny. don't start trolling them though...

anything with a "→" is Me.

_Live Help: Now Chatting
→why is super smash bros winning
Chris: Hey there
Chris: I don't know, but SSB is pretty awesome
Chris: you don't like it?
→LOL, this is sick
→you're a great sport. thanks!
Chris: Hahaa, You're welcome!
Chris: Always prefered Kirby too ;0

anyways, i've been following this donation drive closely, and am an avid VF fan; however, i hope DOA5 wins. i'm surprised it's not a main Evo game.

A)Tekken is a piece of shit.

Oh and

B) SmashBros just passed 13000 so I guess were all getting ready for IPL then. http://shloubfree.free.fr/evo.php

Not even with the idea that I was tossing around would we have come close to that kind of chedder - So I wonder, do we shut it down and focus on the future or do we just keep hurling money at this and hope that Team Ninja kicks in 20K - because outside of that I'm not seeing a W for DOA, and that really sucks to say.

I mean. . .we're losing to fucking SkullGirls. . .SKULL GIRLS! That game is just a low rent Arc Systems fighter - god damn, it just seems like people want to keep playing the same shit!

For 13k we could organize a tournament ourselves. Won't be no EVO but we could manage/tag it to another event to give it some decent exposure.

5k for venue, 3k prizes, 5k spent in the right places for advertisement...

I like this idea better than donating to Evo at this point - I never imagined that Smash could put together 13K this fast.

I mean, Im probably only walking out of CEO with 300 bucks, throwing that at Evo isn't going to make a bit of difference - ugh, and that happened in like. . .3 days? In 3 days they got to 13k?

Get ready for IPL people. :/

Unless you plan on taking first in every game there don't expect more than $50 from DoA at CEO.
